Anyone have a cooling fan relay please?

Anyone have a spare cooling fan relay I could buy please? My fan(s) seem to stay on permanantly all of a sudden.
It's part number 944.615.104.02 for a 1987 turbo with aircon. I think this has been superseeded by 944.615.104.03.

I have tried to get to the thermo switch on the rad but access seems a real nightmare. Thought checking the relay first might be the less painful option and there were some strange noises coming from the fuse box area a few days back..

Cheers

Craig

Don't have a relay but is there anyone nearby you could borrow it from for a couple of minutes? I suggest this as the thermo switch is commonly the problem and yes its a so and so to get at on my 2.7 so must be worse on a turbo.

Thanks Mike - haven't found anyone near me with a 944 yet. Kent anyone?

Yes access looks a real pain - probably best from underneath. At the moment I can't even get to the electrical connection to test. Will see if I can jack car up tonight and at least pull the plug off to see if the fan stops.

My fault for saying she was going so well after the Rutland day out :)

Alasdair supplied me with one for a very reasonable price. Especially as new they're C. £150. [&o]

It's unusual for it to be the relay though. Mine only failed because water got in to the fusebox and it was fizzing and clicking merrily to itself.

My understanding is that it's likely to be the rad switch at fault. As previously stated the wiring for the cooling fans is linked into the ac system both on the low pressure (can switch) and high pressure side (in line pressure switch near the condenser). The fan switch had two settings for the two speeds hence the three wires into it, brown is earth. If u look at the relay it's huge compared to all the other relays because the wiring system is so complex !

If I can be of any help for getting access feel free to ring or email:

Spent a lot of time fiddling with all of this last year to remove one of the fans and plumb in an external extra oil cooler so o know your woes !

Craig,
I have a spare later relay - 944 615 104 03 - which was sold to me as working.
I'm probably about 20 miles away from you depending where you are in Sevenoaks - your welcome to drop by to try it.

Thanks guys - just popped out and jacked car up to get to it from bottom. If I pull the connector plug off the fan switch on rad, the fan stops so am pretty sure it's the thermo fan switch. Have ardered one from OPC so should collect saturday morning.

Thanks for all the offers of help as always. Think it will be best to get at it from the bottom but if anyone has any hints/tips please feel free to comment :)

I have same problem at the moment - and have experienced this before too. When I had my Lux about many years ago I drove it to Kwik Fit and got them put it on a ramp for me and I slipped them a few bob. It cost me £5 to get them to change it for me. [:D]
