Any members in NI own a 944?

Hi

New to the forum, located in Waringstown, County Armagh. I currently own a 3.9V8 TR8 which is going up for sale. Looking to source a really clean 944, probably an oval dash 2.5 lux. At this stage, I'm assuming I'll end up getting one in England as I did with the TR.

Are there any specialists in NI which you guys can recommend for maintenance? And as a long shot... are there any local 944's comniog onto the market in the near future?

Thanks!

John

everything is for sale at a good price ;)

Ive got a 944s in newtownards completely immaculate inside and out

Im not too sure of specialists as i have a friend who does all my work he works on anything and knows his porsches which helps lol.

Hi
Haven't seen any 944's for sale recently and I think mine would be a bit too scruffy at the moment but you are welcome to take a look if you want. I'm in Downpatrick.
Keep an eye out on this forum for cars for sale as they are usually good ones it seems.
Not too sure of specialists either. Mine was always serviced (by the previous owner) by Terry McEvoy up in Carryduff who specialises in Porsche/VW/Audi. He seems ok if a bit unreliable, although he did do major mechanical work on my car (engine change, new clutch, steering rack etc) and it all runs ok so he can't be too bad.
Best of luck
Steve

i was through downpartick today too haha.

Do you attend any meetings if there are any??

Would lvoe to get a look round someone elses 944

Thanks for the replies. Might take you up on that offer Steve if I catch a moment. 15 week old baby = zero spare minutes!! My friend has a 83 lux, so I am familiar with the cars but want to check out an oval dash model. The wheel on the pre 85 car is uncomfortably close to my knees, which I believe was sorted in 85 with a lower seat.

I'm used to doing a fair amount of spanner work myself - but of course, my 2 TR's have been much simpler than any Porsche mechanically speaking. Thats why I'm sticking to the idea of a 2.5 8v as I (maybe mistakenly) think that this will be the easiest to work at and maintain.Spoke to Hartech in Bolton who reckon that for my budget they can supply a really clean example. I'll keep lurking to keep a watch to the for sale ads on the forum.

let us know how you get on johnny and then maybe we can all meet up in our 944's and have a look around them ;)

good luck

There is a fantastic specialist in the north called George mc Millan.
You will be able to get in contact with him through p.c.g.b. r27 .
Even some of the guys fron the south travel up to use him.

It would be good to meet up sometime and have alook at other 944s.
I know the PCGB meets at the Cultra Inn at Holywood I think 2nd wednesday of the month but I haven't been to any meets yet.
John you are welcome to come up and take a look anytime.
I know the time factor (2 toddlers!) hence my car hardly leaves the garage at the moment.
I think Jamie will soon be experiencing this too haha!
Steve

yes haha another 10 weeks and i too will have my own baby haha.

I will have to try and get to one of the meets and see what is on display from other porsche owners in our fair isle haha.

I have heard of a guy in Ballyclare who is supposed to be very good too with the porsches. I cant remember his name but have heard good reports

I'm going to give this guy McMillan a ring this week and find out where he is and what he does so I'll let you know what he says.

George used to (may still do) work for Agnew's (I assume that name will mean something to you) - don't know if he works on Porsches "on the side" , or has gone out on his own now. He used to compete every year on he circuit retro , being a very competent autotester in a Spyder replica.
I used to own a real mint 944 - it was 1982 (first year ??) , and I bought it off the original owner in about 1997 ? , with , wait for this, 11,000 genuine miles from new !! .... don't get many like this , wonder where it is now ?

I have the details of a chap near County Hall, Ballymena who was recommended to me. He quoted £350-400 to my mate last week for a full MOT service incuding new cam & balancer shaft belts. Would be interested in George McMillan's contact details if you guys get them.

John

do either of you guys go to the monthly meetings?

i won tbe there for a while doing a club sport on the 944 takin the rear seats out and fitting a cage. All for looks though the car will hardly ever be on a track as long as i own it anyway haha

A search on here yeilded this - George's phone number is 07803 719911.
Haven't had chance to ring him yet though.

About fifteen years ago I used to travel from the south up to a guy called Paul Martin in Killinchy, Co.Down. Don't know if he still opperates or not.

Paul is still operating . His base has moved a few miles (he had stopped for a while , but is "back" again !) Bert Gear down in the south of England could give you a contact number for him.

I get my 944S2 serviced by Alan McGookin at AMG garages in Ballyclare. He runs his own specialist business mostly dealing in Porsche. He is very experienced and ex Agnews. He has been very good with work to high standard.

Can anyone confirm the PCGB meet dates @ Cultra as mentioned above?

Gordon

Hi,
I'm not exactly in NI, and I dont have a 944.
I am in Letterkenny, and have a 911.
Have never been to any of the meets, so can't advise.
Good luck in your search for a 944. Fantastic cars.
