Any advice on fibre glassing door cards?

Hi All

I have a soggy bottom door panel, I have been looking for a replacement in my colour combo (linen with very dark navy top) for about three years and none have come up so I have finally decided to just glass fibre the bottom of the offending door.

So I know that a few of you have done this, I was going to order some supplies from the internet (eBay I guess?) and wondered if there are any top tips from your experienced minds that would minimise my pain?

Cheers - Joss

I would just buy a second hand one in any colour as you will have to paint the fibre glass repair anyway. As a temporary fix glass fibre would be ok if you try to remove all the rot and prime the metal underneath, however big sections dont work too well as the matting just sags might be worthwhile cutting out a piece of steel and pop rivetting in ion place then filling with body filler.

Doh!! Sorry, I meant to type door card!! (I've now edited the title of the string) - they look fine from in the car, but the board stuff has seen far better days, I have a pristine card in linen and black but everyone (Elliot and Southbound) think that there really is not a way to swap the backing from one door card to another because of the heat boding method used in their manufacture. Thanks for helping to clarify Paul

If they look fine when fitted, should be pretty easy, as long as they don't fall 2 bit when removed. I used a card board tea bag box, made 4 templates 4 the corner, and built up the area slowly. A layer off resin and fine matting then the template, then repete. The card board makes the job stiffer and cleaner. Don't much about with the resin as it setting others wise it will pull and bubble. Do a little bit then offer the card back up and check it mounts up with screw holes e.c.t as it quite easy 2 miss shape. Paint the whole rear off the card with resin or lacquer 2 make it more water proof. Make sure the vapour barrier is intact an in place. Car will stink 4 a bit. But ur never get a problem again, I'm going 2 pull my intacted ones off the turbo and lacquer them 2 be on the save side.
