Another Insurance Question

I think I would stay put, 1500 miles is pretty pants, unless you never get near that. I was with Hagerty before moving to Locktons and was quite happy, for me it was just slightly cheaper but if it hadn't been I would have stayed there.

I wouldnt entertain 1,500 miles! I have 3,000 and can buy up to 5,000 miles pro rata, so theres no financial penalty if I need more.

I currently have both my Porsches insured with Hagerty who I have used for the last 8 years for my Classic cars.

My renewal is up on 4th September and they have quoted my £545.00 for both the 944 and 964 with 3,000 miles per car and agreed valuations with my choice of repairer if ever needed plus UK/EU Recovery.

I wanted to try to give my business to Lockton's as they are the Club's Authorised Insurer so rang up today for a quote. They quoted me £615.42 for the same cover except I was only getting 1,500 miles per car and when I told them that my current insurer's price they knocked off 10% bringing it down to £553.88.

My question is this : If I can get away with 1,500 miles per car (compared to my current 3,000 miles per car) should I move to Lockton's or should I stay with the insurer who has looked after me for 8 years. I've always had good service from Hagerty but have never needed to worry about a claim involving the Agreed Value (and hopefully never will) and presume Lockton's will have no issues paying up if the worst ever happened as they are tied to PCGB.

Blimey, 1500 miles is a bit stingy, I did more than that a month for the year I used my 944 as a daily. Currently on a 6000 mile policy with Heritage for the Porsche, around £190 all in inc EU breakdown cover. Will probably change when I declare the 'mods' after its been rally prepped.

The price is as expected with only £178 of the cost for the 944 and the rest for the 964. Just hoped that 'our' Club Insurer would be more competitive :(

£150 for 3,000 for my Turbo. £195 for 5,000 and I can pay the £45 for the extra 2,000 miles if I need them.

I paid £385 with lockton this year with my 944 for 3000 and 911 for 5000 both garaged. Must be postcode or you might be a nutter?

My Post Code is one of the cheapest areas of the UK. I live in rural Scotland so should be cheap? I can only think its the 964 which is a limited edition 964 Anniversary model and value is £34k I also am over 40 and have a fully protected policy with no points or claims :)

It may not be the 964's value, I had my DS on a Heritage policy with a guaranteed value of £42.5k and that was £112 per year inc EU breakdown!

Whatever any insurer promises as a "partner", you still have to accept that they have a set of criteria they prefer. As with my endless attempts to get "classic" cover, when the car isn't garaged: you just can't fit every company's rofile as a good risk. There's no way around it, you have to do the legwork with insurance. Or, just do a comparison-site search and choose the cheapest cover, if you don't want agreed value, choice of repairer, that sort of benefit. Not trying to run Locktons down here, and so far the feedback is pretty good. Just that they won't be the best deal for everyone, and sometimes there's no apparent logic behind why they seem to "reject" one person over another, by not being competitive.

I've spent all morning looking at the different quotations and trying to see which way to go. Phil @ Hagerty who I have dealt with for 8 years says that the premium is higher as the cars are newer Classics!! If they were 5 years older (even if more valuable) the policy would be cheaper as the more modern classics are more expensive to repair and are more likely to be used on a daily basis. Just waiting for one quote to come back from Manning UK, but currently the best offer I have had was from Heritage Insurance at £436.28 for both cars with agreed values and 3000 miles for the 944 and 1500 miles for the 964 [:)] That's £109 less than Hagerty and 1500 miles is sufficient for the 964

Despite my troubles with classic line renewal, they gave a good price and seem professional to deal with. £185.83 for 3000 miles on an S2 (I'm 39).
