I've a 2.7 that keeps on going flat.

The alt only seems to put the charge above 4krpm.

I have put a different 2nd hand alt on, and its still the same.

Is there an external diode pack on these or another common problem?

Voltage at the battery is 13.7 on tickover.

That sounds as if it is actually charging. Battery should read 12.something with engine off.

I'd be looking for some sort of drain on the battery, as it sounds like the alt is charging, as Fred says
