For about £30 to £40 a corner you can get your wheels re-sprayed. A local tyre fitter did mine. However I have had wheels on a previous car powder coated. It's a bit dearer (more like £60 to £80 a corner) but in my opinion it resulted in a much better finish than a metallic spray.

Bev,

Have you tried `wonder wheels` available from Halfrauds or Motorists Discount Centres. It will remove most stains etc but not actual pitting or holes.

Its the only one I use as it really works. It is more agressive than other makes. Apply with a toothbrush to agitate/foam and leave for a while. Brought back my Landcruiser wheels from the depths of darkness more than once.

Hope its of use

I use both Wonder wheels and the Autoglym one and they're the best I've found too (and using very dusty brake pads I get through the stuff at a heck of a rate, even after waxing the wheels).

The only issue that ought to be mentioned is that these heavily acid based cleaners can discolour the alloy if they are not lacquered or painted, so if the rims of your cookie cutters have been polished in the past then I guess there's a chance it might react. I suggest it'd be worth having a good look first to make sure the lacqueror is still in place, and perhaps even then testing a small area first.

I certainly experienced this on my old teledials where the paint finish had chipped off, so thought it'd be wise to mention it just in case.
Best regards,
Peter.

If you have your wheels powder coated make sure you remove the coating on the points that touch the hubs, the area around teh 5 holes and the inside of the "big" hole in the wheel. I didnt on the first set i had done and i managed to generate enough heat in my front hubs to "weld" the wheels onto the car.. [&:]

Thanks for your help i will give wonder wheels a try and let you all no how i get on , many thanks for your help.

Hi thanks for your advice i have done my alloys today with wonder wheels and thay have come up fine then i polished them with some autosol and much much much better i will give them a polish with ordinary car polish to finish them off many thanks for your advice

Bev

ahhh good old autosol many a night spent with black fingers after using that stuff haha.

It is excellent for removing really ground in dirt on the wheels, just make sure you add a coat of polish afterwards to give a bit of protection back.

A lot of people i know have a crap set of wheels they put on for the winter to stop their "good" set getting covered in grit and salt which eats into the wheels if not washed off regularly.
