Alignment help

Had a bit of spare time this afternoon so took the car for an alignment check. I knew it was going to be out as it drives pretty badly and I had replaced one of the front wishbones.

Anyway I was after a bit of advice as they couldn't adjust it today due to time so have to take it back later in the week.

Firstly I'm not sure the settings they suggest are the best to go for. The data is for an 85-89 car mine is an 89 car but I remember reading about setting them to 91 settings as these are a bit more aggressive. Most of my driving is just on the road but I have done a few track days in the past and would like to do more.

Secondly I have 15mm spacers on the back, just for cosmetic reasons really but haven't got around to getting front ones, I was thinking 7mm as these should fit without longer wheel studs. So should I get the front spacers before alignment?

IIRC Porsche recommended early 944`s to have some toe in but I think neutral toe or very slightly in was the road compromise for later cars (trying to find my old stats from my 1988 1/2 944T)

Toe out gives better turn in but is not very suited for road use and will seem vague about centreing.

S`wat I think anyway.

Paul if you could dig them out that would be great.

I've always found the turn in a little poor on all my 944 I've had, I wouldn't mind a bit more lively set up!

Sorry mate

I thought I scanned them into my PC but havent and they went off with all the cars documentation.

Ring Andy at Promax, he`ll certainly give you good advice (or take it there if its not too far)

Early (offset) 944s have a very different feel due to the balljionts being so much further into the the wheel. It gives them a less "stable" set up, more flicky if that makes sense, so I dont think you could use those settings, '91 Turbo are supposed to be the most aggressive road figures. I dont have them, but I'm sure I've seen them somewhere recently - but I'm getting old and forgetful!
