Hello! hoping someone can help, i just bought a 996 1999 C2 Tiptronic S and love it, still got my Boxster S not sure for how long though :-(
Anyway re 996 basically the horn was going off on bends, I've sorted that but now my airbag light is on :-( so....
1, is it safe to drive knowing that it's come on as i disconnected it, it's all connected still or should i disconnect it, if i did that can i still have it on the steering wheel, and what the easiest way of getting the code erased, will i need a code reader? have tried a few wifi obd2 apps no joy, also disconnected the battery but no joy either. thanks for reading have a great Sunday and safe driving

It will be safe to drive, but the light won't go out by disconnecting the battery. Once the fault memory has been set, it needs to be cleared with a diagnostic tester that is able to connect to the airbag module. (Which cheap OBD2 code readers can't do.)

Any half decent jobbing garage will have a suitable diagnostic tool. The iCarsoft hand-held tools are about the cheapest Porsche specific devices. Or if you want a general diagnostic tool to install on a laptop that will do the job, search eBay for Delphi Diagnostics. The software and interface will be £50-60. It will be a clone DS150E interface, but they work pretty well.

If you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berkshire) I would be happy to do it for you.

Thanks for your replies
Anyway so invested in an iCarsoft diagnosic device £100 Porsche specific but it’s stating I have no fault codes so any thoughts ??

You can try updating the firmware in the iCarsoft. Also, try selecting 986 instead of 996, and see if that works. If neither does the trick, I would send it back.

Where are you located? If you are anywhere near me (Maidenhead, Berkshire) I would be happy to do it for you.
