I have a G reg '89 year model with factory fitted air con.
I have just replaced some of the blower motors as they were getting a bit squeeky and have come to test the system - in this cold weather!
Can anyone tell me if the system is linked to the cabin temperature and there is a low temperature setting below which the air con will not operate - as I have been unable to operate the system other than check that the blowers are working? The temperature inside the car was 6C.


 
Not being one to throw ill thoughts on 911's with AC, you'll probably find the air temp (6 degrees) is beyond the thermostat on the AC control. You can overcome this by finding the postive wire which feeds the clutch on the AC compressor. Break into this and connect 12 volts to it, this will pull the clutch in and give the compressor some RPM. There's always a way round!

I could do what you suggest and probably will as a last resort.
I can hear the thermostatic in the centre console "click" as I turn the temperature down, so I know that 6 deg is not below that operational temperature range but neither the clutch nor the evaporator fan behind front bumper operate.
Non of the circuit diagrams I have shows much detail about the air-con wiring and I am sure that it is more complicated than that shown in the Haynes manual.

Thanks for your offer but I have now managed to get a look at a Bentley manual.
I am not sure how much trust I put in it though, as the AC system layout for US models, on which the Bentley seems to be based, is not the same as mine.
For the time being I'll just have to override the conrol and apply 12v to the clutch.
