Air con converted to R134a

Last year I replaced the condensor and pipes (Euro Car Parts), but the compressor was seized up.

I recently bought a secondhand compressor from Porsche-Apart. I had it checked / serviced by Mirage Air, and fitted it on Friday in conjunction with a new receiver/dryer and seals (Lancaster OPC).

Because it is effectively a new system now, I took the car to Alpinair on saturday for the conversion to R134a (new valve adaptors) and a complete system 30 minute vacuum test before regassing.

The system' s now lovely and cold and hopefully won' t need any maintenance for some time. [:)][:)][:)]
 
While we' re on this subject, my aircon (' 87 944T) needs topping up, but I understand from a friend that I don' t necessarily need to get my system converted, as there is a substitute available for the ' old' gas used in the system originally.

Does anyone know more information about this, or where I can get it done in/near Birmingham?

There is a directly compatible replacement gas for the old R12 that our cars were supplied with. Myself and quite a few others on the www.titanic.co.uk/944 mailing list have used and recommend http://www.airconone.co.uk although he is not local to you. He is mobile but covers Beds,Bucks,Herts,Essex and London and a full vacumn pressure test and recharge cost me £69

He is a friendly bloke and may be worthwhile calling for a local recommendation, or if you are ever in his area........
