Air circulation switch always on

The little light on my dash mounted air circulation switch is always on. Should this be the case? No matter how many times I push it the light never goes out.

I know there is an in-built air circulation circuit that works once the ignition is on, I can hear this when the engine is not running.

In my Porsche manual it says the air circulation switch can be used if your stuck behind a bus, etc to stop fumes from entering the car.

Should the little light on the switch go out if I press it?

Ta for any help/advise.

Kev.

Yes the light should go out when the button is pressed or on depending on switch position it sounds like the switch needs cleaning or replacing, you might also find the recirclulation valves under the cover in the engine bay don't work as they are vacuum driven mechanical units that tend to rot you would need to remove the plastic cover and heater motor housing to check but you should also notice a change in the air flow when the recirc button is on to when it is off once you get it working that is.
