AFN Reading Weekend

Myself and Malc Hickman (both Region 17 Members) took our 968 Coupe and Sport up to the AFN Reading Motorsport Weekend on 28/29th February to see the 2004 GT3 RSR, Le Mans winning GTI, plus loads of other superb porsches on show. Also to take in our 968s for a free dialogue check (yes free). We arrived Saturday 28th at 9.20am, the place was heaving, cars everywhere (Porsche heaven). So many cars that we could not get our 968s booked in, but on hearing this Jeff Stagg, workshop controller, kindly offered to do the check on the following Saturday 6th March. Arrived 0840 am on 6th, car checked out, good bill of health, except for one thing, a hairline crack in one alloy wheel. Consequently I now need a 17" cup 2 wheel. Anybody out there please let me know if you have one you wish to sell - must be fairly good condition, ie. no dents.

Many thanks to all AFN Reading staff who fed and watered us and gave their advice and expertise and treated us with great hospitality and even remembered the 968. PS Did anybody else have their 968 checked out on the weekend?

Always nice to hear of good sevice from an OPC, especially when it's free.

Suggest you also put a call out for the wheel on here as well,

Come to think of it, where is the wheel cracked? It might be worth the rest of us checking ours.

Also, just what did the OPC check on your car?

Not much to look for unless like the previous owner of my 968 you have curbed or gone down some moonlike crater. Where the small dent is, is where the crack started, unfortunately I knew the dent was there but did not detect the hairline crack until it was pointed out by OPC Reading.

In answer to your second question the car was up on ramps for approximately half an hour. Possible problems pointed out such as anti-roll bar bushes worn, condition of just about everything including signs of small oil leak detected, but not where from exactly, but I was only brought into the workshop after the car had been in for a while so did not see everything which was done. No checklist given, but told that car was in good condition for a '94 sport with 68,000 miles. The advert for Reading Weekend was in last month's Porsche Post. I am told that approximately 400 people attended over the weekend. An advert for free anything does wonders.
