advcie and help please!

hiya,,recently had new pads all round and new front discs so i was very suprised when my brake pads light came on early on when over 60mph! now the car is driving great and all pressures on the dash are fine,,are the new pads and discs bedding in? or do i need a new sensor? help,ideas,advice much appreciated,,regards jason p
 
It will probably be a broken wire. You can replace the sensor or simply bare the wires and short it out, completing the circuit.

Why not wait until next week for your garage day and hopefully between us all we could work it out. I'm not including me I'm useless but I could at a push jack it up and get wheels off then step aside and mop brows. Surgeon style!!
 
thanks greg but it annoys the hell of me and i am very impatiant but as i am using her daily the chances are i will book her in and the warning will go off on the mile down to the workshop lol
so will have a look after i drive her in the morning but i speak to the specialists as the car is going in for bodywork the day after our garage day and see what he says.
i just wondered how long labour to do the jobs that simon stated?....regards jason p
 
About five minutes to lash up the sensor! It actually took about one minute when my rear pads were changed recently. How long replacing the sensor will take I cant answer unfortunately.

It probably takes longer to to jack the car up and take the wheel off than change the sensor. Honestly Jason for the sake of a week and a bit why not wait. Quote your chassis number when ordering to make sure you get the right one.

Its certainly good avice to retain the sensors if you arent a hands-on owner or if you dont have the pads changed regularly on a track orientated car, for example.

As has been said - give it a few days and we'll look at it on the garage day. It's not likely to be too difficult to find out what's wrong.

I am a fan of wiring the sensors out of circuit but fully appreciate that some won't be. As you aren't as nutty as I am about tinkering with the machine yourself then sensors are probably a good idea on your car. In which case it would be a good idea to buy some new ones before the garage day so we have some to fit.

I FULLY share your irritation with warning lights on the dash! (As does my sister, although her solution is rather different. I remember driving her car once when we were both still living with my parents, and I noticed there was a blob of blu-tak on the dashboard. "Hmmm", thinks I, "What's that doing there?" So I pulled it off, and discovered that it was covering up the oil pressure warning light, which was on! [:eek:] I stopped the car immediately, called the RAC who took me home and had an interesting conversation with her about the importance of warning lights and that they are there for a reason and shouldn't just be ignored!)

I'm also in favour of keeping the sensors... in fact, I have toyed with the idea of fitting front wheel sensors to the back, as the back only checks one pad per calliper, whereas the front checks both... However, it leaves me with a dilemma, as I also object to throwing out pads which are only half-way worn down, which of course means I would end up trashing the sensors every time I wear out a set of pads and still have to drive around with the red light on the dashboard... So at the moment, some are fitted, some are wired out!
 
While you are waiting to get it done.... stisk a bit of black tape over the warning light [8|]
 
it is bloody annoying,,but i will let patiance prevail, good idea about the tape geoff!
,i almost certain that on the way home that my pass side side-light came on for five or ten minutes!! and as quickly went off,,both side lights working fine and none staying on with ignition turned off,,suppose an electrical/fuse problem would explain the pads light,sidelight coming on etc maybe lol,jason p
