Have decided on Michelin PS4.s to replace the original Bridgestones on my 34k Targa .. looking at the Halfords site they have two pilot sport 4,s ones at £ 197.99 and the other at & £ 239.00 ( appx ) they both say XL and both not N rated .. what’s the difference and what should I be putting on my car ?

I’ve been going round in circles ( pardon the pun ) for ages everyone has their opinions and if I don’t make a choice I’ll keep going round and round . I think i need XL.s and looking at the Halfords site again the Cheaper ones aren’t XL.s so that might be the price difference .. Looked at Conti 7.s but Halfords out of 305.s

They look to both be XLs but they have different ratings for noise etc so are different tyres. Might be worth calling them to find out. The PS5 is out already so the 4 is old technology already.

I just went through the same loop for tyres for my 997.2 GTS Cab. I finalized on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. I purchased from Black Circle Tyres and had them fitted by a company that could torque my Centre locks. Note Porsche dealer would not fit these tyres as the 19 inchers are not N-Rated. The same tyre in 20/21 inch is N rated for the 991’s etc. I have friends who also have them on their cars. I’ve since had the car on the track and out for 1500 mile trip to Scotland. Tyres stick like glue. They will likely be out of date coded before I do enough miles to actually wear them out… Get the best tyre you can buy!

If you want a good tyre, find PILOT SPORT 5... not N rated, but they don’t need to be on your car, they’ll be brilliant

The Michelins are super quite, very comfy, lots of grip, wet weather performance is great.

However, the non N rated ones rob the car of all steering feel, and the initial turn in that makes these cars feel so good is lost.

I run them in winter, but I do think there are better tyres out there now for our cars.

I think I would hold out for the Conti Contact Sport 7 personally.

I have been running the newish Bridgestone Potenza Sport and certainly prefer them to the Michelin, only issue is the rears are a bit noiser, but steering is much nicer, and wet weather grip is just as good.
I think they have had to take it off the market though due to MPG or wear rater, one of those, so not recommending it.

No offence to anyone, but I wouldn't be putting a PS4 or PS5 on a 997, PS4S yeah, but the others are too soft and ruin the steering sharpness. They work better on a 996 with 18's and 993's etc. The cars just like the slightly softer set up, the 997 likes a firmer sidewall and outside 1/3.

The N rated version of the PS4 is completely different to the off the shelf version, but not the right sizes in the UK. Shame.

No worries all done now … I don’t drive very hard I chose Conti 7s after much deliberation and I’m really pleased with them .. quiet sure footed and nice amount of grip and feedback … I don’t take it out in the wet so not overly worried about wet performance..I’ve now put her away for winter .. Thku for your advice though ..

Good choice.

I have a set of the Sport Design wheels to put on as a bit of a change from the Lobsters and have decided to go with the same tyre.

I have spoken to quite a few now who have gone from the Michelins to these and all said the steering and turn in is so much better. Many didn't even realise how much it had been nulled with the PS4S until they went away from them.

I know a couple of people who have changed wheels and without hesitation gone with the Conti 7 again and didn't even consider the Michelins, which is about as good as a recommendation as you can get.

Shame as I have been a Michelin fanboy for 25 years, but they only seem to offer a proper sporty/sharp tyre in oem spec. and only offer the oem spec. in sizes for the latest cars.

I got them through Halfords all 4 appx £ 780.00 fitted ... they did damage one of the wheels which was really annoying but they admitted liability and paid for all 4 wheels to be refurbed so apart from a bit of running around it turned out ok ... good luck .. enjoy the new look with the wheels ..
