U.S. and Canadian Porsche dealers are set to launch the new 2005 Porsche 911.

ATLANTA, Aug. 23, 2004 -- All 204 U.S. and Canadian Porsche dealers are poised to welcome the arrival of the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S to their showrooms this Saturday, August 28. In anticipation of the introduction of the first new 911 in six years, these dealers have planned a wide variety of celebrations to unveil the new models to their many customers.

"We share our dealers' excitement over the launch of the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America Inc. and Porsche Cars Canada Ltd. "Over the past several years, the strong efforts of these dealers have produced Porsche 911 sales records in the United States and Canada of over 60,000 cars. Given the highly enthusiastic early reception to the new models by the media and our customers, we fully expect this next generation of the 911 will provide the impetus to exceed these records."

The new Porsche 911 Carrera and more powerful 911 Carrera S combine the classic 911 silhouette, a trademark of the model for more than 40 years, with new and more aggressive styling. Both models feature Porsche's traditional horizontally opposed flat-six cylinder engines. The 911 Carrera's 3.6-liter unit produces 325 horsepower (SAE) while the 911 Carrera S's larger 3.8-liter power plant develops 355 horsepower (SAE). Both cars also have a newly developed six-speed gearbox and a reworked chassis, which includes active suspension as standard on the S model. Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 911 Carrera is $69,300 US and $101,400 Canadian and for the 911 Carrera S $79,100 US and $115,650 Canadian.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga., and its subsidiary, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd., are the exclusive importers of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne sport utility vehicles for the United States and Canada. A wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche AG, PCNA employs approximately 250 people who provide Porsche vehicles, parts, service, marketing and training for its 204 U.S. and Canadian dealers. They, in turn, provide Porsche owners with best-in-class service.

Wow ! I imagine those prices will be ex. any State taxes. So if you were to import one into the UK I imagine you would be able to avoid the State taxes but would pay VAT in the UK - even after that you would be looking at a bill of only £51,686 on a 997S. This allows you a lot of money to spend on options and shipping costs before you even approach UK list price ! There must be a catch ?????? I wonder if you would be able to order UK rhd spec ????????

Jamie factor in 10% Import duty then 17.5% VAT + shipping charges before you get too eXcited [;)] The price difference between living under Uncle Sam or big brother Tony Bliar is the more eye opening figure []

Well the shipping charges would need to be mighty expensive for you not to be making a big saving over uk list, even if you factor in a 10% import duty. I have no doubt, however, that HM Customs & Excise will manage to throw other sapnners into the works or surely everyone would be doing it ?????????????

Talking about imports I saw an advert in Autocar, for a new Uk spec 997S priced at £57900. Out of interest I emailed them & it turned out this price excluded VAT, so the actual price was over £1600 more expensive than a UK car, with delivery for July 05. When I queried this they said " this comes because Porsche, is raising the rhd C16 package, and the delivery times have been raised as well" .... interesting considering EEC legislation!

Porsche are famous for the dirty tricks when it comes to ordering cars abroad, however there is nothing to stop you ordering whatever spec you like in europe including RHD however as stated above the C16 charge has slowly increased, from memory it is about £4000 I think.

The trick is to order in Japan and ship back, not sure how the US legal system works and if you could order a RHD there.

Anyone got a japanese price ex taxes ???

Is there an OPC in Malaysia as well? might be cheaper than Japan. But overseas customers can arrange factory collection in this case can they organise their own shipping or is it hand over & hand back?
