997.1 Cluster Problems

In 2022, I acquired a 997.1 (manual, convertible) which soon developed a problem with the instrument cluster, which intermittently at first, but ultimately completely failed. I sent the original cluster to several different electronics repairers, who all promised that it had been repaired. Alas it never worked. I bought a second hand replacement, which turned out to be from a US car, judging by the addresses stored on the sat nav. It does work, but the sport mode will not switch on. Two Porsche specialists have advised that the problem is the cluster. It also seems to affect the cruise control which I have had fitted (well, long motorway miles of average speed cameras are such a threat!!) and that seems to drop out from time to time. I don't want to spend the money on a genuine new cluster, but do I need one from a car that had sport mode, or should it just be possible to code any cluster (obviously, from a manual car). Any advice?
