996 Turbo - Take the Plunge?

I'm very close to closing the deal on a 2001 996 Turbo but just read that they are not good for the track as the chassis is designed to understeer. I do like the odd track day now and then. Can anyone give me their views on how the car does on the track? Thanks.

I can't tell you how it behaves on track out of the box, as it were, but I bet it's nothing that CenterGravity couldn't sort out!

do it

Very capable & durable car. Easy to be fast ; only worry is the cost of fuel and consumables ( heavyish car )
when you get the track day bug.

Or you could go for a decent 964, learn to drive and show most 996Turbo's the way ...

And low running cots with a much lighter car ... !

I kid you not.

If it bothers you that much have the front disconnected from the AWD. A cheap GT2 [:D]

It's true the 997tt has better AWD system with more power to the rear of the car.

I used to get 6 mpg from my 996 Turbo S

Well done [:D]

Not so 'Well done' when I started a Session at Goodwood with a quarter of a tank of fuel and had to be towed back to the Pits because I ran out of fuel !! [:D]

I once did a lap of the ring with the fuel light on!! [&:]
Never been towed back yet though[:)]

Just so not to worry everyone I used to get about 28mpg on a run [:D]

I did Bedford back in November and I loved it. It did understeer a bit but it didn't ruin the drive.

It is a bit heavy so new R888 and new brakes are on the shopping list.

Great cars

Try one of these (probably sacrilege as I don't track it). No understeer whatsoever. Manthey KW with a fast-road setup. Perfection.
