996 TT - Major Service

Right...just booked in for a major service. Car has only done 7k miles since last June (when there was a minor service performed) but is now 4 years (and 35k miles) and therefore probably time to have my trousers dropped by the OPC. This is my first Porsche so no history of service costs.

The basic service is just over £1k (including plugs) but they also suggested changing the brake fluid....and I suspect this is just the start.

On the assumption that nothing has really been replaced since the car was new what additional items would you expect need replacing ie what is the service life of brake discs, clutch etc. Want to get an idea for when they call me during the service with a list of their suggestions. Don't want to cut corners just be prepared.

I will probably just use the OPC for all the work as they are local (JCT Leeds - shout if you know of any issues with them or have any special words for discount).

Anyway what would you expect the total cost of the service to be.....a prize for the nearest (well maybe not

). It does have an extended warranty.

Thanks

David

I paid £940 including my PCGB discount, but that did not include a brake fluid change.
On another thread an owner has just paid £1250 including brake fluid..
What do I win ?? [:D]

As Adrien has pointed out, the PCGB membership can be worth it alone for the available discount on the major service.. [;)]

Take it to Porsche Bolton, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Duly noted....care to expand on your reasons?

PCGB membership gets you 10% discount on all parts, though sadly not labour. <hinthint [;)]>

Hint taken [:)]....just joined.

"Thank you for joining Porsche Club GB. Your details have been forwarded to the membership secretary at Club Office. Your information pack will be sent to you within the next 14 days."

I and family have had poor to very bad service and dealings with JCT I can expand if you email me,

Bolton will deal, and they could collect your car, my son is now having all his work on his 996T done by Bolton, they are worth a call to see how they respond to you.
Cheers.

Isn't OPC Bolton the one guilty of heavy-duty joyriding recently? Look at the recent thread.

Yes I did see that post and noted how active that thread became. However my experience and my sons of using this OPC has been very positive. Because I do not know the circumstances of the alleged joy ridding can not comment, did seem a bit inflammatory on one persons view of a Porsche being driven fast must say. If comments like that were made about my company some one would be having their arse sued.[;)]

Hi David,
Just had the GT2 serviced privately by a friend who is an OPC foreman, see if you are allwed to supply your own parts, an OPC SERVICE Kit consists of every bit under the sun which is OVERthe top in the usual OPC maner, for example, screen wash, various washers[usually wrong,] over priced oil, etc. plus the biggist hit of all "consumerbles" this little lot tottalls over £150 +
We did a b/fluid change in about 12 mins. just see what you are quoted.
To change the plugs req. removing the back panel, about 1/2 hr, porsche time is 4 hours.
I know many will say"must have the OPC stamp @ min £95 per hr labour" even though you will prbably have a trainee doing it earning 10 k p/a.
Many indipendants are now recognised by Porsche, the choice is yours, if you go the OPC route , then jump with a smile into the MONEY PIT..............

Sounds like a great idea. I would rather have the service performed properly than worry about OPC vs independent (or indeed price to an extent). If there are any qualifed technicians reading this thread then drop me a PM.

I too recommend porsche centre Bolton - excellent outfit. You will also get a 997 or a boxster as a courtesy car.
