996 Exhaust Replacement

Gordon Fogarty

New member
I have recently replaced my mint 1991 944s2 with a 2001 996. (very impressed so far)
On my to do list is to replace the exhaust, One of the orginal silencers is leaking slightly and the other is not too far behind.
I have priced replacement OEM silencers at £370+vat each.
I am considering sports exhaust options but do not want the car to be too loud, such that after a long run my ears are ringing.
Does anyone have any direct experience?

Cheers

I've just replaced my boxes with EuroCupGT 996 C2/4 High Flow Rear Boxes from Porscheshop in Birmingham (£593 inc vat) they look and sound a treat and not too loud. I also purchsed the 996 C2/4 EuroCupGT Tail Pipes Twin Oval 02 at £106 just to finish it off. I tried to exchange myself but couldn't get the 3 nuts off so got my indy to carry out the work.

How come you didn't change the silencers,or is that what is classed as the rear box as i can't tell from the picture?

Edit, are the manifolds not normally changed either?

Yes, the boxes are the silencers. Not very clear photos, just shows the tail pipes. I didn't change the manifolds as these are ok. The boxes were blowing at the joints (apparently quite common). Obviously as the new ones are stainless steel, these should last the lifetime of car (or me, whichever goes first!) John

Had 7 years experience of sports exhaust - nice sound - had no experience of ringing ears in that time.

Had a pair of Dansk Super Sound Silencers fitted by Wrightune a couple of weeks ago - £600 exc fitting and VAT. Make a fantastic sound - have to keep opening the windows through tunnels and over stone bridges - [:)]. Pretty good at low revs as I have to creep off early at 7.00am and the neighbours (or wife) haven't complained yet. Would recommend.

Hard to know really,
OEM Standard is OK but am looking something a little bit more 'fruity' but do not want Loud.
I am told the Dansk super sound silencers are in the 'loud' catagory
Anyone any experience of Dansk sports silencers? are they less 'loud'

Cheers
