993 Headlights

Can anyone suggest the right sealant to secure the outside lens to the main headlamp unit. Windscreen sealant has been mentioned.

They shouldn't come off! They will be bonded onto the frame at the factory with some form of adhesive. How have they ended up in that state?

Have you taken the full headlight unit out?
Not sure if you know how so if you look behind the side carpet on the side under the bonnet you will see a gold looking lever secured by a rubber clip. Release from there and lever back and forth to release the headlight unit out. You should then see the frame for the lens like shown T911 pic

The lens has become detached from the part that clips into the headlight unit so that is what I need to secure and it appears the only way is to use some form or sealant.
When I bought the car 5 years ago, the lens was cracked and the dealer replaced it but, I suspect, not very well.

I understand what you are getting at but it seems a bit strange that the lens cannot really be secured back in. The alternative I see is a quick £100.
 
Any sealant or glue should work, I would use a clear one so it doesnt look to bad. A new lens might be the only real way to solve it though. I have never seen the glass removed from the frame before, maybe the dealer had the other side and wanted to save money so cut the glass out and bodged it into the frame from the broken unit. You should be able to find a new lens a lot cheaper than in that link!!!
 
Thanks. I think I see the way to go now - try some suitable, say, windscreen sealant and see what happens. If it doesn't work then search for a new lens
