In March 2021 I sold my 991.2 C2 to the local OPC at what I thought (at the time) was a good price and ordered a 992 C2S with a tentative delivery date of Q1 2022. Many of my fellow club members have 781 Caymans/Boxsters and they are always saying that they are more fun to drive than a 911 and better value for money so I thought why not get a Cayman in the interim to see if they are right. I bought a two year old base 718 Cayman with a few bells and whistles. While the engine can be a bit rough at times I'm growing to like this car very much. Q1 is not going to happen and even though Q2 was mentioned it looks like Q3 or maybe longer. Bottom line is that 2023 is looking more likely. The significant delay has got me thinking about how much the 992 C2S is going to cost as I can see a price rise in January 2022 and then maybe another one in January 2023 to a point where the price is just getting plain ridiculous when I start to compare it with my Cayman (even if I bought a newer used one or a new one specced up to around £65k). My Cayman is worth around £42k and the 992 will be close to £115k+.
I haven't backed out of the 992 C2S yet and finance is not an issue even at £115k+ but my question from my head vs heart is ....what will I actually get for an additional £73k? I can't believe that the 992 will handle better or be more fun than the Cayman. I think that the Cayman is more practical (two boots provide better security for luggage). The dash layout may be looking a bit dated on the Cayman but I do like to press a button rather than a screen. I've driven a few 992's and just cannot get comfortable with its dash/interface. I admit that the 992 is the better looking car but is my £73k just paying for better cosmetics on my driveway?
Thoughts?
