987 Boxter 2.7. 2006 model

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to Porsche & the club. Bought the car in Feb and appear to have the typical Boxter problems:
* smell of hot rubber from the wheel arch/engine vents. Porsche Chester said it's not a problem. Mmm, not sure about that.
* key works fine but put it in my pocket, even sometimes just down on the bench in the garage, and the locks /Windows have a mind of their own. Have noticed sometimes it's worse when in a fleece pocket. Static electric!!!??

Any ideas, please

Welcome to PCGB and congrats on your Boxster.
Burning smell from the rear is nothing to worry about its normal lots do it especially after a long run or spirted driving.
As for key don't quote me i think something might be adjustable to be less sensitive .
I am sure someone will be along about the key with more info.

Hi, i had similar problem with key fob on my 987S. Try taking it apart and cleaning-could be dust clogging buttons -be careful the micro-switches are very small.If this doesn't work i bought a replacement fob case off eBay for a tenner .works brilliantly .Remember to change over transponder to new fob -its glued in !! Hope this is of help.Look it up on Boxanet -a great source of info !
 
Hi. My previous Boxster a 2006 2.7 987 used to get hot just like yours. my current gen 2 987 does exactly the same. It is quite normal. Hope you are enjoying your 2.7 Boxster. I loved mine and welcome to Porsche GB.
 
Thanks everyone for the reassurance about 'burning smell'. I feel a little more confident now.

Yes, the key buttons are a nightmare. I have to keep it in my hand as I walk away from the car as the slightest pressure from my pocket would open the car again. Too lazy to fix it just now!!
 
I'm new too, had my 987 since last September, I bought it off my neighbour who'd had it for years. I had key problems, but you can buy a new case and transfer the internals over and the problem is solved. theyre even advertised on EBay, but best get one from your local dealer.
 
Thanks for the advice everyone. Bit the bullet, so to speak, a visit to Porsche Chester and a new 'fob' now makes me feel more confident the Boxter will stay locked when I leave it.
 
Both my Cayman and wife's Boxster smell of burning rubber from side vents after good run.
thought this was an issue at first but not so bothered now!
