987.1 Battery cut-off switch

I’m not aware that this was a standard fitment Andrew, indicated by its absence from the Driver’s Handbook. I suppose it’s possible that it’s a safety device which is activated automatically in the event of an accident in the same way as there’s a similar device for the fuel system. Other than that I can’t see any advantage of fitting such a device. Better to keep the electrical systems activated, and [on my 987.2 at any rate] they’re shut down to a minimum level after 7-days of inactivity to save power.

Where did you get the information? If it came from a selling dealer maybe a previous owner fitted it?

When I signed up to MyPorsche this was listed as one of the options supplied with the car, together with the hardtop, Bose sound system, leather interior etc.

They all come with the cutoff switch from the factory - it consists of a small unit the essentially "trips" when supply voltage is low and a "stick" that allows the trip to reset ( by poking the stick down the gap at the back of the bonnet near the wipers - yes really) - it's a "transit protection" so the car isn't DOA at the dealers. They are removed as part of the car commissioning and sent back to the factory for re use. They are not "legal" for use on the car when its being driven since it can suddenly trip and effectively kill the car - so I think its one of the first thing the dealers removed when a new car "landed".

Yes, well done on that one Paul. Although it explains why there’s no mention of it in the Driver’s Manual it does call into question why it seems to be included in the My Porsche app? Clearly an oversight.

Its part of the "build spec" - if you get the details from any source against VIN number it's there - similar to "dials in English" and "steel doors" and alarm system - whilst not an option as such it's part of the "recipe" for the car.

That does make sense Paul, even though clearly it can lead to some confusion, as in this case, and especially since it’s removed by the dealer before handover to the customer.
