Hang on a moment - they're comparing a coupe with a convertible here.!
Best wait until the 981 Cayman S comes along - with an extra 10hp? over the Boxster and a chassis with a stiffness equivalent to that of the 991 - for a fairer comparison, particularly on the twisty bits.

It's a good point Jeff, hadn't thought of that.
Although, there is the train of thought that the Boxster is such a well developed car that attaching a roof will bring about only a little benefit. An example with the 987

much though i enjoyed my cayman s for 3 years I really havent noticed a huge difference in not having the coupe roof -and thats with the 987 boxster i have-the 981 we tried at PEC recently promises to be every bit as stiff (as far as i will be able to tell)as the hardtop sibling
Im a little perplexed at this mail, well the comments. The comparison to the 911 is like people are trying to prove the Boxster is as good as the 911, like Clarkson always states those that buy a Boxster is because they cant afford a 911, or supporting the theory that the Boxster is a poor mans Porsche or you are advertising to the world that your life hasnt quite worked out the way you wanted it to - and i dont see it that way.
The 911 and the Boxster are both very very good cars, one a two seater the other a two seater with two pretend rear seats - but they appeal to to two very different markets.
Many of the components in the Boxster are directly from the 911, the engine range is different and the handling characteristics are very different, but when i read these comments its like someone is justifying their purchase by trying to assert the Box is now as good as a 911 or indeed very soon the Box will be ahead.
Porsche have built a very capable car in the Box, it appeals to those who want a roadster, the top off, its a different market so the comparison between the two isnt valid, Just why the press like to do the comparison is beyond me, they dont indicate the Ford KA is almost as good a car as the Fiesta cabrio.
Ive had two Boxsters - a 2.5 and a 986s - they were terrific (the 2.5 had a better gearbox and cost very little to run for the 5 years i had it) I never looked at the 911 or thought my car was less of a car or needed statistics to prove my Box was not a poor mans porsche, of course as i got older i became more self concious i was an old bloke running around in a soft top so didnt want to put the roof down - so my requirements changed and i wanted a car with a roof, still wanted a Porsche and didnt want the Cayman so i bought the 911.
I dont care if its quicker - i drive in the same traffic as everyone else so its irrelevant, i dont track it, I just love the car for what it is, just as i did the Boxsters

Come on, I don't believe you changed your car for that reason. You just want someone to bite don't you, so I won't jump on that[]

From manufacturers with their Nurburgring lap times, down to all levels of automotive banter, lots of people like a comparison. It doesn't mean they will make their car choices based on fractions of a second. Otherwise lots of people would be driving the Radical SR8 (and Porsche would try to make a Radical as well, just to gain top spot on the stopwatch). Cars are usually compared to their peers from other marques but some of us Porsche fanatics are unique in that we often like to compare the Porsche models amongst themselves, rather than compare them to other marques that we're not even interested in. It's because we're interested in the 911, Boxster and Cayman, regardless of price point. Some have gone from 911 to Boxster and some the other way round.
