981 lifting bars - raising car for wheels off and cleaning

Hi
Looking at lifting bars in the US for raising the car from each side. Basically fabricated box section which locates into the two factory lifting points, using a trolley jack. Assembly has axle stands at each end - along these lines.

Anyone used similar or know if anyone manufactures these in the U.K.?

Never seen them before but look quite interesting. Presume they might flex a bit in the centre when lifting and may touch the underside of the car, looks like possibly some protection material on the top ?? Also you'd need a trolley jack that goes both low and high enough ideally to avoid lifting in stages ??
 
Sandy is imho dead right, I would think they will flex or even permanently bend when a jack is used on the yellow markers.
Labour saving device though.

I just jack the front up and do the 2 fronts, same for the rear. Even less effort but the effort to lift the wheels back on and bolt up is more than all of this!
 
I’ve not seen anything like this for sale in the UK Nick, but I would think that any competent fabrication shop would be able to knock-up something similar for a lot less than the $359 [plus shipping and duty?] Liftbars are asking?

I agree with Sandy and Graham that it’s a neat approach, although there’s plenty advice online on the best way to lift the car onto 4 axle stands which need to be purchased anyway for the Liftbars.

Note that Liftbars say: To move the center of gravity closer to the car and weigh less, Liftbars bend, but only so far.

Although that statement does’t make any sense to me, I take it that some bending is in order?

I can't envisage the jack that would be long enough and low enough to reach the central lifting point on those bars. There would only be about 3 inches under the bar if the car was on the ground. So You would have to lift it by other means anyway. As hillclimber states, one end at a time or one side at a time. On the Cayman you can lift the whole side just using the rear lifting point.
 
I use a set of quick jacks that uses the cars lifting points. to lift the whole car in one to 450mm under car
it has two working heights and is really safe for working under the car. Bought from Costco when had a sale on
I also use wheel hangers which really helps with on and off of 20" wheels, and stops the risk of chipping the callipers

The photo below is from a workshop - a cross beam like this would be ideal.
Still mulling over how to do this cost effectively, have thought about a scissor lift table

 
My 2 tonne machine mart jack only just goes under the front of my standard 987.2.
rear is much easier.
The screw in wheel handed bar is essential in your front tool kit.
