981 Aircon query.

My 2014 981 BGTS is fitted with the basic (not split) heating/aircon system. Seems to work well - hot is hot, cold is cold. However (and unlike my previous 981 2.7), as soon as I switch on the a/c both of the front cooling fans kick in, regardless of whether or not the car has been running or the internal temperature setting.

With the a/c off, the fans appear to to work 'normally' (only cutting in for engine cooling if prolonged standing in traffic) and the car runs at a steady engine coolant temp of 90C.

I've read various threads where some claim that this is the way that the system works, but I'm not convinced. iCarsoft shows no faults and refrigerant pressure looks healthy.

And wisdom welcome. Thanks.

On my 987.2 CS with climate control I believe that the cooling fans kick-in at low level when the a/c is on, which makes sense because air will be drawn-in over the condensers even when the car is stationary. I never turn-off the a/c but I would imagine that the fans wouldn’t be required in that case.

My 987.2 does the same. Low speed fans on as soon as a/c is on.

It’s one of the simple tests the specialists use to check the fans are working I think.
