Can someone help me out with info on 968 spare wheels!

I have purchased a new rear boot carpet form a 968 although it fits quite well it does not have the spare wheel bulge, pet shows 2 versions and a AUS version ..

did the 968 come with a spare similar to the 944?

can someone post picture of

the spare in situ
the metal fixing loops that are welded to the beam and poke through the carpet.

cheers ken

968 rear carpet is different to the 944 one as the back of the car is different simple as that. I put my old black carpet set into our now departed 968, all fine except the rear carpet. I swapped mine with Simon Peckham because he had fitted a 968 carpet set into a 944 turbo, all happy at that point.

Thanks Everyone
I think I've moved on now I'm on the lookout for a perfect 944 rear carpet

but just wasted £400 on a new 968 one...anyone interested [:D]

I could have brought some more unobtainium with that money[] but at least I know what my next project is[:)]

ORIGINAL: 944 man

Its probably doing up your own flat after your lass finds out about the wasted £400!

[:D][:D] Wishfull thinking[:D]

So before I waste another £400 can someone tell me are RHD and LHD boot carpets the same

Found a new one 944 in the USA[:D]

Theres no left hand drive / right hand drive distinction in PET for load deck carpets, only for Australian market carpets. I dont know what the difference is - perhaps theyre upside down? [:D]

But be aware that there are several different carpet profiles for the different spare wheel sizes used in different models over the years. Ask me how I know that one! []

Schoolboy error. There are actually several types as there are early and late type carpet and both came with full size and space saver spare wheel provision. The rarest is probably an old 924 type carpet part which accepts a collapsible spare, used on the 924 Turbo.

Id regard a new full height carpet in the correct material to be a bonus btw, allowing me to use a latery type full height spare wheel. Collapsible spares which havent ever been inflated will all be FUBAR now, unfortunately.

And a new collapsible spare will cost you £360 which makes £400 for a new carpet set seem a relative bargain.

I still havent given up on finding a new replacement, or a substitute, but Im not holding out a great deal of hope. Ive been meaning to ask Vredestein whether they supplied 16" tyres to any other manufacturers. Ive seen some AUDIs, but they were 17"s unfortunately.

Just checked the one in my Merc SLK. 145 x 70 R 17 92P unfortunately.

(yes, I have TWO cars with stupid spare tyres)

Hi Ken,

My boot carpet is pretty damn good but of course after 26 years not perfect, I am doing away with spare wheel and going over to tyre weld, I have been thinking of a way to cut out the spare wheel hump.

Would struggle to justify £400, but you may have the answer how well does the 68 carpet fit?

Did I just read that correctly.......

£400 for a new rear boot carpet.......??????????????

What on this earth.....[8|][8|][8|]

I used to own a US LHD 944 and as far as I am aware they are the same , but please do not quote me on it !
If you give http://www.porsch-apart.co.uk/ a call and ask for Warren , he owns a LHD 944 , ask him if the carpets are the same ?

How did you end up paying £400 for a rear carpet ? Did you buy it brand new from a dealership ?

Best of luck with your quest .

yes I wanted a new carpet so got it direct from main dealers which is the same cost as the one in the USA
compared with some Items I have purchased it's a bargain[:D]

I'm going to risk it[8|]

On a separate note, if any wants an immaculate condition original spacesaver wheel (yes the tyre inflates perfectly) I have on sitting in the shed doing nothing.

PM me ?

Yours

Chris

If you inflate it fully it will almost certainly crack. After a couple of days if not immediately.
