964 Sub woofer

Hi All

I couldn't see this in FAQ's but I wonder if anybody has had a sub woofer fitted to their 964. I think I have alreafy decided oin a brand and model but I'm thinking about placement in the car, not much room as yo know. I would appreciate some hind sight if any one has been through this before. I went to have one fitted today and the audio shop wanted to 'wedge' it between the underside of the dash and the top of the transmission tunnel. This would entail cable tying one end to secure it and cutting off a very small piece form the end of the passenger foot well heater vent, not happening on my car! Apparently they have done this before to a 911 with great success. What we have agreed on is that it will be fitted in the foot well inside a box which they will fabricate from wood which will create a false floor and reduce the size of the foot well (short passengers only from now on) by about 3-4" as this is an under seat sub woofer. It will be fully carpeted with the correct audio material. I have not booked the date yet, I want to carry out more research but I'm planning in the week after next. I have decided on In Phase USW12. I have reviewed at and ruled out various Alpine and Pioneer. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? No 964's will be harmed in this procedure. All removable.

Simple answer , why do you need a subwoofer when you have na aircooled flat 6 to listen too, that's why we have the cars ;-)

Save the money and spend it on a little more fuel for a longer drive and appreciate the engine !

Thanks Ian

I hear what you are saying but when you have had the car for as long as I have and you drive it every day and still appreciate the engine, especially with my Cup Pipe you still want to relax to some soothing sounds and my speaker and head unit upgrade of a few years ago just doesn't cut it so I want just a little bass hence the question. This is not going to be a boom box on wheels [:)]

As you point out Tony, we use our cars in different driving conditions. Sure the exhaust note is a pleasure to listen to, but if you're stuck in the rush hour traffic, or maintaining a steady cruising speed on the motorway (usually in a speed restriction zone, obviously), having your favourite music playing through a decent car audio set-up can be a joy.

I've myself been looking on the Web over the last couple of months for the answer to the same point, though I'm still not sure what is the best sub / location solution for me. There doesn't seem to be enough room to fit an under seat sub in a 964, and adding an enclosure to the passenger footwell seems a popular option. The footwell in the rear is another option, or there's under the passenger side dashboard, in place of a rear seat, atop the transmission tunnel, or even in place of the glovebox!

I keep meaning to get along to my favourite local car audio installer for his advice (not only on a sub, but also because I want to go retro with the head unit - there are plenty of 90s Blaupunkt products available at reasonable prices on Ebay and, if they were fitted with an input lead from a CD Changer, an adaptor can be bought cheaply enough to convert this to an Aux input for use with a phone, MP3 player, or HighRes player (my excellent Fiio X3, for example).

I'd welcome hearing about how you get on, as I'm sure would others. I shall try to talk to my guy during the week and will post again with his thoughts, as soon as possible.
