So Ken, what is the focus of this forum as asked many weeks ago?
J
Hi John
The Forum is still developing and has not at the moment become particularly structured.

The nearest thing to being " focused" is the large number of hits that we have had on the Digital Camera thread.

Ken

Judging by the use of the forum so far, it seems to me that it is developing along the lines of ' Anything even loosely related to Porsche that you want to discuss with PCGB members, particularly non-technical queries.'

The thing about this forum (for UK members, at least) is that there' s every chance of meeting and knowing your fellow contributors, so that cyber-friendships become real ones.

Rennlist is a very useful and friendly place but, in general, the bonds formed are not likely to be anything other than cyber.

Smartgroups is a great technical source, but not the place to chat.

The PCGB forums let people get to know eachother, exchange interesting information and pictures. People will point queries elsewhere, as appropriate.

FWIW, Ken, I think the way you gently encourage people (even when they would be regarded as going OT elsewhere) is a good thing. And I don' t say that because my own threads here are prone to do this (!), but because a lot of people will be new to this sort of thing - a friendly, non-threatening forum like this, where you know there' s a relaxed moderation, is just the thing to encourage people to foray deeper into other territory.

Thank you John, for the support that you have given to this new forum.
I have tried to " kick start" the various threads to get as many people involved in the discussions as possible and feel that we have had an element of success in doing so.

I am pleased that so far we have already made new cyber friends, from as far a field as Scotland to Cornwall and lots of points in between. As you comment, hopefully we will meet these Club Members face to face at one of the Club' s events soon. It has always been the policy of the 964 Register to make people feel welcome. I trust the same will apply to newcomers to our forum.

Best wishes,
Ken

Does it really matter what members choose to use the forum for?

The forum is there as a means to interact with othe PCGB members.
If people have a mechanism to discuss mutually interesting topics, then surely this is one of the benefits of membership. To impose too many rules would be to stifle the potential for growth, and I am not sure that these things ever develop quite the way you would expect.

I think it will probably end up self-regulating, since if a thread is started that has no common interest, others will not post replies and these topics will wither.

Rgds, Stuart.
