964 Cabrio to TARGA ?

Heres an interesting question:

I have a 1990 964 cabrio which is a little tired , but all original . Knowing the Targa bodies started as cab bodies , can my cabio be converted to a targa easily enough . has anyone done this ?!

assuming as long as i have the glass/rubbers/t top ...it shouldnt be a tough conversion ..... my cabrio top is finished and the mechanism has much repair , so its a route im considering

anyone?

Yep even secondhand the targa top will be around 2k if you can find one. Add to this recovering which will be about £800 if it needed doing. Also you need to fit the rollbar and all seals. I personally would either sell yours if you wanted a targa or just get you roof fixed. Will be much cheaper.

i think it would be easier going from targa to cab as there is less work and parts needed.

Thanks for info ...I suspected going from Targa to cab would be easier as its , cut and remove , rather insert and fix , the roll bar . i forsee many leaks /wind noise .

Main reason for the thought is that theres a destroyed targa in the wrecking yard , but minus the actual targa top . easily enough to repair my rag top , also may look into fabricating my own alloy hard top , which would pretty much be a clone of the rag top , but with rear side windows ....

If it were my car, I would be looking at spending the cash on a new or refurbished soft top. Converting will devalue the cabrio!
Having said this and dispite what people suggest or recommend, ultimately its your choice. [;)]
