951 Front Flexible Fuel Lines

Hi just had a look at the flexible fuel lines on my car whilst carrying out some other work.
They are looking slightly tired & cracked so would like to replace them as a matter of some urgency - maybe some good weather on the way & I just want to drive the car !!
Does any one know of a UK supplier of a kit to repair these? (I know they are available from the US but I want them quickly & without the hassle of paying import duty etc).

Regards John E

Id be careful to specify material which is impervious to the effect of alchohol John. Trying to find the right product in the correct material is enough to give an aspirin a headache, though!

Out of interest have you tried OPC? sometimes they not as bad as you think

Would they be the best option for newer fuels?

Is this the front hose that was subject to a recall? There have been a few fires over the last couple of years from this pipe failing, so worth checking and replacing if you're worried.

It was the fuel damper line that was subject to a recall from memory. I had my damper line done in ptfe steel braided hose at pirtek for £15. They would be able to make up ptfe ones which cross over from the inner wing to the fuel rail aswell.

Regarding fuel hoses for a 951 (which I believe was the original question ?)

The other option if you've got the car off the road, is to the lines (front and rear) to a local Pirtek or similar hydraulic hose manufacturer, explain what you're after and let them make them up for you.

I did this with mine using Spectrum hoses in High Wycombe - excellent value and quick turn around,

Simon, I think ptfe is resitant to most things. That's what all the braided hoses like you get from the states are made of if you look on rennlist, lart sells them.

Ptfe lined braided hoses are also used in most race cars, it is not cheap though, my oil lines for my new ol cooler cost £100 and the total length is only 1.2 metres.

I'm having a set made now I'm paying £60 for the 2 hoses plus the tank to return pipe which is no longer available from Porsche
...opc wanted £100 each for the fronts
PM me if you want the details [:)]

PM me if you want the details

Can you post them? I think this is worth a mention in Porsche Post, as there have been a number of fires caused by faulty fuel lines and it's good to be able to point people towards the best solution.

I ordered from the powersteeringstore.co.uk

they are local to me and Richard is a ex 944 owner ...only a small place about as big as my front room but he uses OEM fitting's imported from Germany, still waiting to pick them up so will advise when they arrive...[:)]

See link below, recall on 1988 MY cars is for the hoses from the fuel rail, Porsche cars UK recall numbers AM03 & AK03 my car had these recalls carried out in Match 2010

Hi Andy, Thanks for your reply (and all the other replys)
You say that you had these replaced under a recall, what was the procedure for getting this done, did they contact you ? Was it FOC as a safety mod ? Did they replace the whole Fuel line or just the perished rubber ?
Do not think it likely that they would replace them FOC on a 25 year old car as they would put it down to fair wear & tear
I have owned my 1988 car since 1999 & have not been informed of a recall + looked through the history supplied with the car. went onto both VOSA & Porsche website & they do not list anything in the UK.
Still trying to source an off the shelf solution, bit suspicious of some of the braided stuff from the US as some posts on the net describe 'a fuel odour' after fitting some types of these which appear to have silicone rubber liners.

Hi Ben,

Car was in for a service and they informed me that the recalls we're outstanding, my understanding is all you should have to do is contact your local OPC give them your chassis no. and if your cars needs it done they should just book it in.
