944S spark plug removal

Hope someone can advise me how to remove the spark plugs, as the nice little gadget in the tool pack supplied won't give enough purchase
and the one I used on previous cars, from my socket set, is too fat to pass down the tube to the plug. [&:]

"thin wall" sockets are usually available which should fit down the tubes. At least in NA, thin wall is a normal term to describe these - they are plenty strong for most applications.

The spark plug tool from Halfords (which goes onto a 3/8" extension before it goes onto the ratchet) was fine for dealing with the plugs in my S2 (assuming the S is the same)). That included working with Bosch, NGK and Nology plugs :).

yes screwfix have some good deals on socket sets the halfords sets a very good if you are short on tools and will see you well

I like to vacuum round the recess with the lead off prior to removing the plug so no dirt or grit drops down into the cylinder

I dont like the specified torque settings for the plugs seems too tight on the alu head, a litttle copper grease or fresh oil on the thread and hand tight is perfect.

Chas, having has an S, just looking at the cam cover you would't notice a lot of difference; to the untrained eye they look very similar so my guess would be your solution for the S2 would work admirably well on the S

Thanks all for your suggestions, very helpful. I eventually managed to get a thin walled plug socket and got them out.
Plugs 2 ,3 and 4 look the pale straw colour but plug 1 is black and heavily coked up. Not sure how it even produced a spark!
Any ideas as to the cause please?
