hi all

im new to this forum and have joined to find some advice of something i am planning to. for the last two years ive owned a volvo 940 which over the two years have now gotten her to around the 400hp mark (a true sleeper) but now i am wanting a change. my plan is to put my 4 cylinder turbo volvo lump in the 944 i no this has been done before but i cant seem to find very good information on it so id thought id try here. duno if anyone can help me out with issues i may have and also what will the standard 944 diff and gearbox hold? as the standard 940 ones hold 500hp which is very good.

any help would be much appreciated

cheers

Hi and welcome!

Don't know anything about these engines, just looked on wikipedia and saw that the head was designed for Volvo by Porsche... so maybe the engine you have already has some 944 heritage!!

My first question is which 944? I think you will at least need a turbo gearbox for sensible gear ratios and the hardened pinion (a known weakpoint in the standard gearbox).

My second question is why? The standard 944 turbo engine can be tuned to close to 400bhp and it sounds like you're familiar with the process. You can get a lot of 944 turbo tuning goodies for the money/effort you're going to have to put into fabricating adaptors for the bell-housing, engine mounts etc.

Wow! Looks like they had to move the brake master cylinder to fit the engine in there. Also looks like a coolant elbow going nowhere... a work in progress perhaps...
