944 Turbo SE (?) for sale on autotrader

So will this car have M030 kit fitted? Owner says it's a '91 spec SE? Excuse my ignorance but I'm not clear on the S/SE scenario. The 'Water Cooler' says all post '89 cars were made to S spec, so I'm assuming that includes M030?

F**k me thats a good find if it is what he says it is! I'd be tearing his arm off and tearing off over the horizon if I were you! Just be sure to have a very good look at it first. The wrong 944 can be very very pricey! The right 944 will never let you down. Perhaps get a local turbo owner to go with you in exchange for a pint?

In answer to your actual question yes all turbo's after 1989 should have M030 as standard. I know they all have the m030 brakes at least.

90 on had boge/sachs fixed dampers rather than koni adjustable to a similar spring rate, all other M030 bits will be there, and it will have a bridge spoiler, leather sports seats, etc.

Looks very nice - and a reasonable price. Fixed spring platforms don't really matter too much. (having said that, I think they look better when they are dropped 30mm or so [] )

I wouldn't be concerned with the mileage, but budget for an extra grand for the unknowns. It doesn't say whether the a/c works - I guess working a/c is quite handy in a black car.

Check it for rust, just in case the sills or wings are starting to go.

Am I missing something Ben? It's a late Turbo with 149k on the clock - nothing wrong with it but absolutely nothing special about it either.

As Tony says it is a 250 Turbo which will not have M030 suspension unless it was specified as an option, but it will have the bigger brakes and other stuff that came with the 250 cars except for the wheels which are D90s rather than forged 7 spokes. It doesn't have 10 speaker stereo which most late Turbos had and it has basic electric seats - nothing special about it at all.

That said if it's in nice condition then it might be a good enough buy.

Thanks for the advise guys. I'm quite keen on a low ride-height, 'cos I want to keep the D90's and get 'em diamond cut and polished. I'm aware of the benefits of the KW kit, but budget may not allow for a while. Will shorter springs alone be suitable enough? If so, any sugestions? Thanks again.

I've got Leda dampers, (fixed platform dampers at the front) & Eibach springs []

Dropping the front is fairly easy - as long as you don't go too low you can do it with springs. Getting the rear low can mean re-indexing torsion bars (a bigger job), although there is some adjustment in the spring plates. These bolts are likely to be very very stiff / seized. Best bet is to go somewhere that understands the suspension on these cars - most places will run a mile!

So I'm assuming you've had the torsion bars adjusted on yours 'cos it's mighty low at the back! Would promax be a good starting point?

It was all done before I got the car - at Northways. The car is probably squatting a bit under power as well.

I'm sure Promax could do the job - depends where you are in Lincolnshire, but there may be some closer places. Zentrum in Nottingham and PH Sportscars in Derby are both good options.

by way of comparison, here is mine:


I have kw suspension but did not have the TB re-indexed, just adjusted. It is noticeably higher at the rear than Ed's but not stupidly so.

I found a similar '92 turbo with the full option pack, when I was looking several months ago. It was an unusual metalic blue, 150k with 14 owners in the log book! It did not have any supporting paperwork and there were several problems with electrics - central locking, seats etc. It had come through a Porsche dealership in p/x and bought through a trader.

On paper it looked great and it was quite difficult to walk away with all the options in-situ, but think it was a duffer.
