I suppose I could get dearer stuff this time now I shouldn't have a sump weep or a cam box gasket weep or any other little weeps in fact, so shouldn't be topping up as often!!

Thanks both - is that the mineral or fully synthetic VR1?
I've got Shell Helix HX7 10W40 in at the moment but that was just to flush the engine after it had been standing for so long, need to change it when I replace the rear main seal. I see Shell do a 10W60 fully synthetic oil....

I once tried a 10w-60 for a change but found it took a tad long to build pressure on cold mornings up in balmy Scotland! Reverted back to 10w-50 at next change. 10w-50 hit the sweet spot for me for all weathers and to maintain good hot pressure, typically 3.5 bar hot idle which is more than decent. I'd be inclined to stick with it after I'm up and running again.
