944 Torque Tube

After rebuilding my torque tube I am now not sure how far the shaft sticks out of the end of the torque tube. Does anyone know how far the shaft protrudes from the cultch end of the TT? Would I be ok to just fit the TT and knock the shaft into the pilot bearing?

Tom

I make it 148mm from the 4-bolt mounting flange face to the end of the TT driveshaft, on my spare 924T TT (I'm 90% sure they are the same).

You should be able to tap it to the correct position. Just make sure you hit it square and the end of the shaft is well protected.

Edited to add:
I think the spec for the gearbox end is 49mm sub-flush from the large aluminium mounting flange.
(Edit 2: Corrected 19.5 to 49)

From Clark's:

'Measure the distance from the transmission end of the drive shaft to the bellhousing end of the tube and record it. This is so the drive shaft end can later be reinstalled to the correct depth in the torque tube.'

It's not at all hard to work out. Measure the depth from a straight edge over the trans bellhousing to the trans end driveshaft. The tt shaft end need to protrude this distance from the tt bellhousing face. The coupling only goes on in 1 location - just slide the driveshaft with a lever on the coupling when installed on the tt end until the other bolt engages.
