944 S2 Upgrade

Looking for some extra performance from my S2, already stripped for track use, so not much to do regards lightening. Thinking of an upgrade to the management chip, any recommendations? it is for track use.
 
The S2 chip at Promax always gets good reviews. You won't necessarily get much of an increase in peak power but you get a noticeable increase everywhere else and a smoother drive
 
How lightened? As Paul says, you get more drivability than anything else from these re-maps.

Theres usually a good deal more weight to come from most 'lightened' cars.
 
Agreed, mine is 1130 Kg with 4 gallons of fuel and could easily loose another 50 to 60 Kg. Getting under a tonne would be a struggle though without cutting away metal and/or severely mucking up the weight distribution.

I also believe that much as the same as with the 968 a head refreseh helps no end but is not cheap, my midrange power as in torque went up by about 10% after EMC rebuilt the cylinder head.
 
If you're ultimately chasing lap time then you'll get far more bang for your buck by investing in brakes and suspension. No point in carrying an extra 10mph if you've only got to brake earlier and corner slower.

With my turbo an extra 60bhp was a noticeable improvement, but the KWv3 was a night and day transformation in every handling department.
 
1130kg sounds great, I'm down to 1240 from the front seat backwards and about to start towards the front, any tips would be welcome?
 
Depends how much you want to spend. The first 100 kg or so is pretty easy as its a case of taking stuff out of the car, mostly from the interior. Your next easy step would be to take your seats out, lift up the front carpets and pull out the sound deadening from the footwells, ideally get the main floor carpet out and strip of the rest of the sound deading from the floor and trans tunnel then if you like you can refit the carpets. I had a thread on here from about 3 years ago when we weighed much of my car during the strip down. It might sound silly but taking out the sound deadening makes the car feel much faster due to greatly increased engine noise. Big weight savings though involve use of fiberglass panels, bare shell rebuilds on an acid dipped shell, plexi windows etc. etc. On my race car for example it weighs 1130 Kg despite having a 17 point welded in cage, fire extinguisher, stock headlights and leccy windows but it was built from a bare motorsport prepped shell (acid dipped, renovated/welded, cage then etch primer + minimal amount of solid colour all over). I could save about 20+ kg just by replacing the heavy stock glasswork and the same again removing stuff on the car to make it fully roadlegal for all conditions.

On a -ve though I would caution against cutting away metal from the car, its pretty irreversible and at the least could damage the cars weight distribution at worst could lessen its crash safety. Some racers for example will cut out the door bars, very bad idea as side impacts are unfortunately fairly common in these cars, ok one could say cut out the passenger side one but again this would likely fail my point about weight distribution as you need to be fairly light yourself to get even corner weights (mine are all within 20kg of each other and I weigh 72 kg). Its also not great if one then sells the car to someone else who has a different weight and/or sits in a different position, or to put it another way I wouldn't ever buy an ex-race car that had been mucked about with like that.
