944 S2 for sale - help needed!

Hello all Porsche and 944 enthusiasts!

I have posted a bit ago and had a little response to my ad but I have not been very active with trying to sell my car.... I need some help please!

I love my car and don't want to sell it but unfortunately shipping to Africa is not feasible, nor is driving it on bumpy mud roads in the villages! I am moving abroad in July and to be blunt I need to sell my car at the end of June.

I am aware that people may wish to knock down the price by me saying this but I really want to be upfront and hope the buyer is reasonable with me. I am advertising my car here again and also asking for some help with selling it.....

things it has: CD player, sunroof, central locking, alarm, alloy wheels, well kept interior, 125,000 miles, tax and MOT until November.
what it needs fixing: one mechanical part for the drivers electric window. There is some rust (not large area) on the sills and the back windscreen wiper doesn't work (not worked since I got the car - not an issue for me).

You hope folk will be reasonable with you ? But you want a quick sale on a 944 with sill rot.

For your sake I hope you have a very realistic sale price.

A bit harsh, Mas, But I understand your comment.

Natalie, you need to include the relevant stuff in an advert. All 944s have alloys, central locking etc., so that's no use at all.

Some rust on the sills is normal, how bad it is will be the major factor in a sale. Get some close-up pictures, and include internal shots through the door vent.

On an S2, the things to look for mechanically are when the belts, and all the other associated bits like water pump and timing chain, were last serviced? Has it had a head gasket, brake overhaul, fuel line replacement, suspension refurb, or any other major work recently? Whilst "full history" is often quoted as being a selling-point, in fact only eveidence of recent work is really relevent.

These cars are relatively plentiful, and very cheap to buy. There are also very few buyers, so it's a difficult market after 5 years of recession. You need to make your car stand out from all the other S2s, and that's down to addressing the potential weak spots. Genuine buyers (who've researched what to look out for), will be attracted to ads that detail recent history and current condition, and give a lot of detail and pictures of the car.

It's a shame that Ben Coombs has already written a book detailing his trek in a 944 from England to South Africa, otherwise I'd suggest driving the car over!

I have pics but can only load one per post. Here is a pic of the 'rot' (yes ukmastiff a bit harsh! I'm just being honest about its status without giving a false impression). This pic shows one bit that has a rust patch, this is the biggest bit (1 /2 inch diameter?) that is affected on the sills.

Very much an amateur book, but if you've driven a 944 for a while you can genuinely hear and smell the car as it's gradually falling apart. []

I thought it was a fair and useful comment, if I was being harsh id have commented in what was lacking in the ad but I have no desire at all to be harsh

if you take it to somewhere dry in africa at least it wont rust further !

although probably everything else will break and It'll be a long way to the nearest opc

Here is a pic of the 'rot'

Might be wrong here, but the pic looks like rust on the lower edge of the front wing, which is very common and not that expensive to fix. Rust in the sills is much trickier, so probably worth getting some pics of the inside of the sills; there are postings that show you how to do that with an iPhone, so you don't necessarily need an endoscope. If you have 12 months MoT then that is one less problem for a potential buyer to consider. The mileage is well below average too.

Its actually the front of the rear wheel arch, again not the sills and also easier to fix. Although more prodding may show more rust behind.

alloy wheels

Not just "alloy wheels", but 17" Porsche Cup 3 Twist wheels (I think - no doubt others will correct me if wrong), worth mentioning in the ad.

They are 996 Carrera 2 wheels. Theyre ugly but theyre light. I dont like them but theyre fitted to my Turbo too.
