Hello!

I'm new to 944s and am looking to buy a mint 944 or 968 just for the summer months and am interested in the above car. Does anyone know of it in the club or viewed it already? Its got £100k miles, is pretty much original and very clean from what Ive been told by the owner. Has fsh. Only fault is small rip in rear screen....is this easy to get replaced? For £8.9k it seems like a good buy....

Nice colour [8D] It isn't baltic blue, it's glacier blue.

I'm pretty sure it's on the Titanic gallery and has been for sale for some time. Look familiar?

I don't know anything about it and the poster of the picture doesn't post anything on the forum (unless he doesn't use his real name on there which is unusual on Titanic), but he did / does have a red 1983 Lux for sale as well.


Everything I wrote about the S2 coupe in the other thread here applies, plus the hood is a concern, albeit one you dont need to be especially skilled to inspect. In the picture it doesn't have a tonneau cover on - they're expensive and as you can see the roof looks untidy without one.

For comparison I bought mine at Easter last year. It's identical except mine has a blue hood and interior and is a 1992 car. It had 142,000 miles, FSH etc. etc. and I paid £7,200 for it. I then replaced the cams and the suspension for another £2k, but now I know it's sound. It also had a new hood only months before I bought it and that cost £1,100 (I have the receipt).

Getting the colour wrong doesn't exactly inspire me to start with. But the colour is very nice anyway. It is the car on Titanic, you are right. Yes, he has recently sold a red Lux and says he has had 7 944s... He also mentioned in his description that the belts were only changed at 95k miles....sounds a bit excessive to me. Could there be any problems leading on from that? You are right about the tonneau as well. So actually compared to what you paid, its not far off being the correct price then? Maybe I will look around a bit harder before I make a decision....

Whilst the belts were only changed within the last 5 or so thousand miles, how long ago was that? Without use the belts still deteriorate. I know many who sware by replacing them every three years no matter what.

The owner says this '...belts were done about 5K ago (these normally need changing at 38K)'.

Hes owned it for 18 months and done 12k miles, so the belts weren't done long ago. But he seems to imply that they haven't been replaced before..

Well, the belt didn't break so he got away with it. The only other things that would have been directly neglected are the tensioners and rollers. However.... it doesn't say much for the quality of maintenance the car enjoyed in its early days.

As regards price, this car has 100k and no mention of cam chain/cams. I'd say over 50% likelihood it needs attention there. It may need a clutch (then again mine still appears good at 163k) and who's to say it doesn't have suspension past its best? It also needs a tonneau (though at least black is the easiest colour to find second hand.

It's also a 1989 car. I'm no plate snob but the early cars leak around the A pillars whereas the laters ones have a different design of seal over the screen top to prevent that. I don't know when the change happened but a mate with an '89 is actvely looking for a used later rubber.

I'll leave you to decide, but personally I wouldn't have bought that one if it had been on the market at the same time as mine, although I drive them a lot so I don;t care about miles and I prefer the blue hood to the black which would have swayed things.

You'd be surprised the number of owners who don't know the 'official' colour of their cars. The thing is, it is not written on any documentation, my log book just says blue, and the stamps on the car and in the service book just give a code. It's only when you start talking to other Porsche anoraks that you discover your metallic Burguindy is actually Zyclamen Red????

Regular belt (and chain) changing on these cars is a must. It only costs around £200-£300 for each job and that has got to be better than a rebuilt head should the worse happen. If that car has been advertised for a while it could be a good bargaining point (or there could be a good reason why it has not sold)

I wouldn't rush you but, if you are set on a Cab, you could do with picking one up in the next couple of months. Prices for drop heads go up in the Spring when the sun comes out.

I have one for sale with less than 70,000 miles on the clock, no rips in the hood (replaced a few years ago) and belts/clutch replaced within the last 2,000 miles. All yours for £9,500.

Car is Guards Red, in excellent original condition and I would be happy to submit to any inspection. Yes, I am buying (have bought) another Porsche............
