I've not seen the 944 rally'd much so when I saw these videos from the 2011 Rally Storico Campagnolo I thought some of you may be interested.

The first video shows the 944 at about 1:40 and is quite short, the second is from inside the car and lasts several minutes.

The drivers are a father and son team ,Gianni and Mattia Franchin. They have been rallying that 944 for some years now with success.
They installed an S2 engine in it early last year coupled to the standard 8v gearbox ,great combination for rally stages.

I absolutely love seeing 944's in classic motorsport events like that as ive said before.
I wish there was more interest inhillclimbs rallies etc on the forum as opposed to track days and track racing [&o]
Ive watched most of the rally vids etc on you tube and love to see them.

Cheers

Great videos, thanks Edd.

I thought feeding the steering wheel through the hands was limited to 17yr olds learning to pass their driving test...

Proper inspiring stuff, maybe i will try and take my car in that direction, especially as it is the same year and i have already done the same engine swap! must be fate - or so i will tell the wife!

Good find Edd, I enjoyed them. [:)]

Really interesting to see how they have set up the handbrake on that huge lever in the centre of the car []

Great videos, thanks Edd.

And emergency services driving courses... its an old fashioned system of driving but it works for the purpose. The videos look fun, I wouldnt mind trying that myself...

Also reminds me of this '928 expedition' car at LMC 2012.

In this thread, http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=714986&mpage=1&key=&#714986, I comment on the fact that there is about to be a Pre 1987 class in "historic rallying" for which a 944 might be a very good bet!

I do like that. Although I am now old enough to know I couldn't do it! It still scares me to think of the 12-car road rallies I used to do as a student.... especially the time put put my Capri 2.8i in a field!
Chris

Ah 12 car road rally events, they were good. Won two in my Imp Sport! Also ended up in a field near Luton Airport in my Cortina GT Mk 1. (Bad navigator) Thanks for reminding me Chris.

I think my field was in Hertfordshire somewhere.... However, I was able to drive it out!! Slight re-modelling of the front spoiler. I don't think I'd do a 12-car these days. I organised a few too. They are really quite dangerous. At least if I crash at a track someone will see it.
