944 Price incorrect?

Hi guys,

As you probably know i'm new both here and to the Porsche world.

Anyway, I bought a really nice 2 owner 944 for £3200 about a month ago, and since then have spent time sorting out the little niggles (all cars have them, i know!). Last week i found out that id got a job which will be a fair commute and is right over the wolds so will require a 4x4ish thing for winter (certainly not a 944!). I decided that its best to sell the 944 while its summer, and I've not signed the log book yet so no extra owners on which is nice.

I put it for £3200 just wanting my money back, but have now reduced to £3k. Its on here and ebay and ive got about a million watchers, but does it seem too much? Its 1986 with 110k but lots of history etc and the belts were done at 91k and 103k.
I wont post a link to the ad as that isnt the point of the thread, but am I way out here price wise? I thought i'd got a great deal at £3200 and would have no problems selling at that.

All advice greatly appreciated (i promised i'm not a car dealer but a genuine classic car enthusiast!)

Thanks

Phil

You dont say but i assume its a lux ? , the problem with top end luxes is that although it may be a gooden so to speek , there isnt a great market for 3000
Luxes. People can all post up how great an example yours may be and a bargain blah blah
but the lack of purchasers proves the point. Its a shame as they are a beautiful 80's classic.

There will be a buyer as there was when you bought it and my advice would be if its a good one then be patient.
I cant tell of course as I have no idea about your car.

Regards

Mas

Hi Mas,

No, completely agree and that's a fair point. I always worry though, because I dont want to be one of those people who hangs on because its 'worth' that but actually its just over priced!
I dont want to loose a fortune though either so I guess i just wait and see what happens, then maybe put it in the garage for a year and assess the market, however I cant see it going up in value in the next year or so, so I'm probably best just cutting losses etc.
Oh, and yes it is a Lux. Were there any other models which weren't lux/turbo at that point?

Thanks again

Phil

What about getting a spare set of wheels with winter tyres, and if it's really bad (not many days a year), work from home???
A couple of points from recent postings: winter tyres make a real difference if they are proper ones like Blizzaks or Conti Winter Contact; and 944's are good practical daily drivers.

No mention made of the sports seats in the ad. Also, the bolsters arent shown. Im presuming that theyre good because the car appears to be clean, so the pictures and text need to show this. The sports seats are worth a good £500 so Id mention their desirability.

Thanks Simon,

Great advice about the seats. Bolsters are in perfect condition so i'll get that on too.

Mike - If it doesnt go then I genuinely think this may be the way forward. Thanks for advice on winter tyres too.

Best

Phil

Just to add to this - I lived i Canada for a year a few years back, and drove a 1982 Trans-Am (Knight Rider Car) on Summer tyres all year round - it's not as bad as you might think, and folks with proper winter tyres (as Veerzigzag says) rarely struggled at all.

Make sure you waxoyl the sills though!!!

You know what will happen; OK so you take a haircut on the price and sell the 944. Driving along in your new Shogun (which you really need for 3 days a year), some bar-steward in a clean tight 944 blasts past you, makes a leisurely up-change then legs it into the distance. That's where you want to be, but too late.
Sounds like you have paid a good price for a good 944 - in my humble opinion I would hang onto it, but your choice of course.
