You have either one of two problems (or possibly both [])

1. Your key has worn down and is too thin to make proper contact in the socket
2. The contacts in the socket have worn so the key doesnt touch them properly.

Either problem can be solved by calling the original manufacturers of the system http://www.hamilton-palmer.co.uk/ They can send you a new key, if you send them yours, or also a new socket. IIRC they are around £20 each

Had the same problem with immobiliser.

Sent off for new tag / key , but this made no difference!

Decided to have the whole immobiliser removed. A lengthy job (as the wires seem to be all over the car. )

Discovered then it was still not working , and later discovered it was the ignition switch itself that had worn. All fixed now.

how nice it is not to fiddle with small immobiliser key (especially in the dark ). Now I can just get in & drive off instantly. Delightful.

though for Insurance & security purposes will need to get another fitted. Adifferent make this time I think!
