Hi all, I remember seeing a tutorial someone had done a while back about bushing the gearlever linkage hole on the 944 linkage and using 2 plastic bushes. Anyone know where it is as I cannot find it. I need to redo one on this turbo I am working on whilst the box is out!

Hi Alasdiar,

Is it the Buchanon Automotive mod? Listed in the 944 FAQ section at the top of the 944 page:

I got my plastic 968 bushes from Exeter OPC:
999 924 002 40 -------- 70p each

I also bought a 968 gear lever by mistake for £26 [&o]

But then I got to thinking....., with a bit of careful bending/cutting/hammering/welding/swearing, could I turn this into a nice neat short shift mod??? (itches chin)

My plan is to keep the 968 gear lever (top item in the above picture) as it is, save for straightening it. On the 968 lever the pin is 20% closer to the pivot ball, therefore reducing the movement of the lever by the same amount.

I have a spare gear shift rod (long part that runs from the lever back to the gearbox), which i have managd to bend into the correct shape to suit the lower pin position. Next job is to remove the end collar weld it back on further back.

If it works, I should end up with a 20% shorter shift, but still using the factory design and components

Jonny, dont like to say your wrong but...

if the pin is closer to the pivot point you would need to move the shifter further to achieve the same amount of throw, the further away it is the less you need to move the shifter.
