Stupid question, but have you checked the earths on the engine and at the back for the pump etc? Sorry if I am insulting your intelegence, no offence intended..

hiya colin, no offence matey at all, yer ive checked earths out,its proper doing my head in now, was running great ,then parked up for a few months, now no joy,,.......

Might be worth listing what happened, what you've changed etc. in one thread? I seem to recall the car was laid up for a long time, but there are thousands of threads every year and one starting issue tends to blend in to another! [&o]

thanks for reply guys, appreciated. ok,so here goes, ill give you the history...car was working fine, running really good, parked up to play out on bike then never touched it for about 10 months or so,garaged mind.....so went back to start battery flat, recharged no joy.so the situation is as now still.. no spark at plugs , no fuel entering cylinders. fuel pump no noise when cranking...erm..parts replaced ,,plugs, ht leads, dizzy cap and rotor, dme,and even a ecu.now proper stuck ,hope you guys cuold giv us a clue ? look forward to answers many thanks........

Have you checked outputs from the ignition switch? Otherwise Immobiliser as said above.

I know this is probably a daft thing to suggest but...... My car had a small glitch in the system that meant that if you opened the car with the key in the passenger dorr thye car would refuse to start.I have a meta immobiliser fitted as well as the factory alarm.I came out to the car on a very cold and frosty morning and found that the drivers side door lock was frozen ( no lighter with me to heat up the key with in order to defrost the lock). So I opened the car from the passenger side and then opened the now unlocked drivers side door.Inserted tag in the imob and tryed to start the car ..................... no joy just loads and loads od cranking and no go. I nearly flattened the battery still no joy. So I locked the car up and left it.Came back from work put key in drivers door and tag in imob hey presto car started first turn of the key. Lesson learned it was the micro switch attached to the lock barrel on the drivers side.Ie if you did not activate the drivers side door lock and micro switch then the cars own imobiliser in the factory alarm will not let the car create a spark or build up fuel pressure.

Worth a try? by the way dont know if it's got anything to do with it or not but on my car only the led on the passengerside flashes when the car is locked the one on drivers door pin stays on .

DME relay? seen exactly the same on a 3.2 Carrera years ago, dry joint on the DME relay board, just took the relay apart and could see it looked iffy.

Soldered the dry joint and "Happy Days"

ok if you have no spark and no fuel delivery then the fault is that the ECU is not grounding the DME relay which suplies your fuel pump and ignition control.
That is it !

What you need to do is do a step by step test of the Bosche Jetronic system systematically. there is no point in replacing the fuel pump fuel filter distributor cap, coil, rotor, HT leads etc etc until you have tested the basics.
It is a complete waste of time jumping about all over the place testing /replacing things at random . you'll just make things 10x worse because you are introducing more unknowns into the problem.

First make sure your battery i fully charged, the ECU must see at least 200rpm (revs per minute) whilst cranking before it will ground your DME relay . Is your engine cranking over that fast ? count the turns against a watch.

Start with the 12v+ supply to your ignition switch
1. Do you have 12v+ at terminal 30 on the ignition switch ?
2. Do you have 12v+ at terminal 30 on the DME relay socket ? (remove the relay to test)
3. Check fuse 34 (fuel pump) is it ok ?
4. With ignition off remove DME relay and put a bypass cable between socket terminal 30 and 85b A paperclip will be fine. Does your fuel pump run continuously ?
Warning even though your ignition is off be very careful when you connect a wire to terminal 30 as it is a constant 12v+ live. Take usual precautions or get an electrician to do this if you are not competant.

Once you have got the results of this come back with the aswers and I'll give you the next part of the test. If you follow this exactly we will get the car started

Fov there is no point in posting for help then giving us no information and not coming back to your post for days or weeks to see the replies. There is nothing more guaranteed to piss people off that try to help and not get any replies .[]This is the second thread that you have started on this issue. You abandoned the first one without replying. If you post asking for help at least come back once a day to respond to replies. We can get your car started but you need to respond to all the questions we ask ok.
