944 Baby Seat

Hi guys,

I may have hinted that I have not driven mine for a while on the flat battery thread.

Well amongst other things I had to buy a family car as I got married in September last year. Fast forward 9 months later we now have our first child!

I am using the family wagon now for the mundane duties and the turbo as a weekend car when I can (not that there are many free now)

So the question is how do all you parents out there transport the kids/infants about in the 944?

Anybody managed to fit an infant carrier/child seat in the back seats successfully?

Cheers,
Charlie

Congratulations on the marriage and baby, Charlie.

There's not much that fits the back seats until your baby is about 4, but I used a Recaro Prince in the front of my turbo on the rare occasions I had my latest child in it. This works from the ages of about 9 months to 3 years. But when the baby is really small you need a rear facer, and that will only fit in the front also. So if you need to travel as a family, it looks as though either your wife will be in the back or you'll be in your other car.

By the way, I've now finished with my Recaro as my youngest has now grown out of it. It was probably only used about 10 times and is absolutely "as new". From memory it was about £180 when new (something that may have changed in the last two years since I bought it, but could checked online). I'm open to offers from any interested parties. Delivery can be arranged easily enough as I run a mail order company.

Thanks Ewan,

Well I will admit that I grew up in the back of my dads 924 and then 944 but not sure how old I was, and for sure the rules have changed since then and can never remember having to have a seat, he just lobbed us in I am sure!

I have an Isofix Britax set up in the SAAB (rear facing) which will clearly be replaced when the baby gets too big but since its just the three of us the new seat will be a permanent fixture.

I think I will look for something similar to what you have suitable from 9ish months specifically to keep in/with the 944 (she is only 6 weeks old currently). Also I know this is not the classified section but I could be keen if the price is right on your seat.

Cheers,

Charlie

Theres a very cheap Britax which fits. From memory it is also called Prince (a name used by Recaro too).

My wife now tells me it's a Recaro Young Expert - not a Prince. Either way, when I go to the garage in the morning I'll check as I still have paperwork and handbook. I recall there are two versions andi had to be sure that the version I got fitted the bolsters of the sports seats of both my 911 C4 and my 944 turbo.

I'll post better (more accurate!) details tomorrow.

Having checked the paperwork ours is indeed a Recaro Young Expert. A quick look on Google shows them at between about £110 and £150 depending on who you buy from and whether delivery is included or not. It's mainly black, with light grey side inserts. I'm sure you'll be able to source any technical data required from the 'net.

Ours was hardly used as it was bought for the 944 which promptly spent most of the last two years at JMG! I'm open to a sensible offer.
