944 Automatic Gearbox - Oil Cooler piepwork

Hi,

Can anyone enlighten me as to when the 944 Automatic box came with oil cooler pipework?

I have a D reg 924S [8|] with a knackered diff and am on the hunt for a replacement gearbox... having bought one from a '85 944 auto I have discovered that it doesn't have the necessary pipe work to connect the oil cooler.

Thanks in advance
Russ

Russ,
I cannot help you with the information you need on an automatic 924S but if you look in the appropriate PET section - the Porsche parts catalogue for the 924S it should provide all the information you need. You should be able to download a copy or look at a copy online.

I have a 2.7 automatic 944. The gearbox is a VW/Audi part with the part number 010 321 106B for the single mount version - hope that helps.

It does look as though the diff and the gearbox are separate entities.

Thanks Mike,

The plan is to mate the 944 diff and the 924S box.... if that doesn't work then I will resort to finding a later 944 auto box with the oil cooler pipe work.

I have part # 087 409 111L which I believe relates to the diff only for an 1985 944.

Russ,
I don't know how the speedometer is driven on a 924S but on a late 944 the connection from the diff to the speedometer is electronic with the sender screwed into the top of the diff.
There is a previous discussion on the forum about converting to an electronic speedometer and the advice given was to stick with the standard cable.

I have found the 3 prong sender unit on the 944 diff.... I think I will leave it be.

Had a quick search and I believe the 924S Speedo is cable driven from the near side front wheel.

Thank again

Thanks Paul - just checked all 3 944 catalogues and they all show pipework for an oil cooler.....typical that I buy a box with the plumbing!

Russ,
I suspect that I am not too far away from you. I have a gearbox out of the car which will show you how the oil cooler pipes connect.

Give me a ring on 01892890182 and you could pop round some time and see where they connect to the box.
As the auto box is a VW/Audi unit could it be that some examples don't need, or don't have, the oil cooler setup.
