944 (again!) Rear Bumper...

Sx3

New member
Hello,
had to park my 944 in a car park today, left it as far from other cars and the shops as I could, and, you've guessed it, some numpty in a camper van reverses into me...

He has just touched the rear bumper trim leaving a crease, but it has pulled the trim away from the mounts at the far ends on each side.

So, it looks like there is a metal strip in there with screws or bolts that have pulled out, anyone know exactly what is in there and what I need to repair it?

thanks, Bob

I have a rear bumper if you need one[;)]

Hello, thank you, the bumper itself is fine its the trim strip that is damaged. Any ideas what exactly is needed to re-attach the rubber trim? I don't really want to take it all off until I have replacement parts.

regards, Bob

The rubber bump strip/finisher comes with fixed studs protruding from the inner face which are secured by nuts on the inside of the bumper. I guess the metal strip you're seeing is what the studs are welded to inside the rubber, and has torn loose at the ends. You can get a new rubber strip for about £50 I think, try Design 911 or Euro Car Parts, also try the main dealer. I would suggest soaking the bumper brackets with penetrating oil for a while before you try to loosen the 2 big bumper bolts, the captive nuts on the brackets can break free making it really fiddly to get them out - please don't ask me how I know! You'll probably need some new small nuts for securing the rubber strip too, the studs tend to shear off with the nuts still firmly attached.

Good luck!
