928S 1984 Passenger Door Lock System

Hi All,

A little context, I do not have central lock system. When I unlock the passenger door using the key and trying to open it, the door locks itself using the handle. It feel like the handle has a wire attached to the lock and pulls it in and locks the door. I can open the door from outside only by holding the key inside and in open position. From inside I need to hold the knob in open position to be able to open the door.

Could you please advise what is the problem and a DIY fix if possible?
