Gentlefolk,

Apologies for my absence, dying people, dying dogs, and the need to find a new home for my numerous Porsches has been taking up my time recently"¦ and continues to"¦ something has to go.

I have a 924Turbo shell, with a very solid 944 engine plonked in the engine bay"¦ I had the parts, and it seemed rude not to put them together. How-ever, there is a lot more to this conversion than meets the eye. It isn't running "" it needs the fuel lines connected to the engine, wiring, and coolant system connecting up.
The engine was from my accident damaged daily driver, from which I have all the other parts. Oh, it has 944 front end, awaiting 924 Carrera GT rear arches for the Carrera GT look-alike"¦ It is also multi-coloured, green with slime, but underneath absolutely rock solid, so I was going to leave it that way, as an ugly way to show up some of the shiny stuff!
But"¦ as mentioned"¦ too much on my plate"¦

So"¦ the reason I am testing it here, is to determine if I sell it complete, which solves all the problems nice and easily, or break it? To me I need to see £500 for it to get rid of it as complete as it is (complete with the bits necessary to make it go), but I suspect for a little hassle, it would be worth more broken for spares"¦ which I could do, but it means moving it, etc, etc, etc"¦

So"¦ do you think like me, that is probably an optimistic price for such an ugly project? And if I were to break it, how much interest is there in 924/944 spares at the moment? I seem to be some-what out of touch"¦

All comments welcome"¦

Oh "" where is Scotty? I think this car would look fantastic next to yours;-)

1st dibs on the badge panel if you break please ?

Seems a shame to pull it apart to be honest Tref, it's not a million miles away from being a cheap track car for someone ? I don't think it's wildly overpriced either ? A bit of room for negotiation I'm sure...............

PS - what's your location ? I could be interested if you're not too far ?

The car is in South Wiltshire.

First call on Badge Panel accepted - but what are you willing to pay?

Damn, just as I feared - you're exactly 1.3 million miles away from me haha.

Re badge panel - no Idea what they're worth to be honest. I'm probably gonna be better going with the fibreglass version I'm thinking of making, but PM me a price when you're ready and I'll count my piggy bank [;)]

Shame to break it up, would be a great project for someone - put a 3ltr turbo or v8 in it, KW suspension and it could very well embarrass much more expensive and shiny machinery in the hands of half decent driver.

Didn't someone build a 924 with 968 running gear and KWv3's, and spend many happy weekends trouncing 996GT3's?

This 924 (lightweight, with small frontal area), with a 3 litre turbo engine would be a truly awesome machine. All the best with selling it Tref, and I hope your personal circumstances are on the way to improving.

931 nose panel won't fit a 951 body just for those who were hoping to do the conversion.

Good luck with the project.

Good to know, cheers 333pg333. Guess a cut and shut could be made, though it'll be a time consuming job welding it in without it distorting.

Looks like I'm sticking with my fibreglass job for now then.

Yep! I'll admit that dropping in the 944 engine was the start of my plans, if it all worked out right. That said, At a test-track bash in Dorset a while ago, every-ones favourite was a well-driven 924S - prefered to GT3s, 997s, allsorts, because it was fun! In standard form it embassed a few 911s at Castle Combe too. So I don't think it even needs a bonkers engine... it would be up a little on power compared to a 924S, down a little compared to a 924 Turbo.

It's been done, usually with fairly poor results. Sorry to the guys who've done it but I think a bit of plastic filling the hole looks rubbish.

There are plenty of really nice badge panel conversions if you want to get vent in a later-style panel, just go bespoke!

I agree with Paul... so if I end up breaking it, sorry, but you'll need to provide proof you are over eighteen... I mean provide proof you have an early style front end before I can sell you the badge panel!

Best way to get the 924T look on a 944 is to cut the original panel and use the 924 inserts, There was a drawing on rennlist with dimensions for this some years ago,
Tony

Sounds like a good cheap project car for you Scott ? Go on, you know you want to [:D]

Mike

I certainly want to but unfortunately I have no time on my hands to even get into the loft to lay down extra insulation at the moment with the two kids so any time to lavish on a hobby is a pipe dream. I have a 'Porsche fund' on the go that will be accumulating over the next few years for when I take the plunge into Porsche world again at some point in the future, but I keep on changing my mind on what to get:- a 924/944 hybrid track focussed car, a 996C2 with KW or even a Boxster S - also 996 turbo prices are looking very tempting but running costs might be prohibitive. Caymen's holding their value though. Though my girls might spring a surprise and raid my fund for a Horse or something like that. I best keep it under my hat!
