911SC 1982 Y Indicators and Hazards stopped working today

Hi

I am new here and I have just got my first 911 two weeks ago, a 1982 911 SC on a Y plate. The car is great with a great history, but today my indicators and hazards no longer work. I have checked with my Haynes Manual and there seems to be a relay, so I may change this, but has anybody else experienced this? Any pointers would be great. The other weird thing is that my cars dis-arming system now does'nt work either, strange.

Thanks

Roy.

As a first point of call I'd suggest you swap the relay in the fuse box with the fuel pump relay then try the hazards to test if it fixes it. I think the flasher relay is black and the fuel pump relay red - both are a small cylindrical shape and along the top of the fuse box above the fuses - but it will have more detail as to which is which stamped on the inside of the fuse box cover. Also check all the fuses are in good order and have good contacts with the fuse holders.

I guess your alarm system some how reacts differently if the indicators can't flash when set or disarmed?

If you find this fixes it swap them back to their original position and order the correct relay from either your local Porsche dealership or I find Euro Car Parts (0870 150 6505) good for things like this (it won't come in a pretty Porsche box but will be exactly the same). I think they cost around £10 - £15.

Might be worth buying two as I suggest you always carry a spare just incase the fuel pump relay packs up so you're not left stranded.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi Roy,
Sorry I'm not about to offer the answer you're looking for but to be honest I think you'll find the Haynes manual for your 911 pretty poor and of little help,I know I do! What I can thoroughly recommend is a Bentleys service manual, although seemingly expensive at £75 is superbly informative and concise.I bought one for my 3.2 carrera and they do one for SC too, bearing in mind O.P.C hourly rate is this anyway, the first time you benefit from using it then it's paid for itself. PCGB shop have them.
Happy motoring and enjoy your 911.

Hi Rich

Thanks for the information. Well I had a look today, found the Relay that feeds the indicators and it appeared to have worked its way slighty loose from connections, so I pulled out and reseated, then tested, indicators are now back. But Alarm/self alarming system still not working, strange. Will need to dig deeper.

Hi Ian

Haynes manual not to bad, but could be better, but taken your advice and getting hold of a copy of the 911SC book by Bentleys of Amazon at not a bad price.

Thanks guys for your help, would appreciate some feedback on the alarm/self arming problem though. Also started today 17th December no probs, but a slight screeching (not really screeching but a duller version) from engine bay as engine is idling, it was'nt the V Belts though, any feedback appreciated.

Roy.
